Meet Your Counselors...
Mr. Angelo - 6th Grade
Welcome back to the students and families of Coleman Middle School. My name is Mr. Angelo. I have my Master of Science in School Counseling from Long Island University. This is my first year at Coleman as the 6th Grade Counselor. Although I am new here, I have been fortunate enough to have worked with students for over 20 years. I am so happy to be here, and I am looking forward to a great year.
Outside of school, I enjoy going to the gym, cooking, walking and hiking (Gwinnett County has the best parks), and spending time with my dog Bubby and my family.
Mrs. Cunningham - 7th Grade
I enjoy working with middle school students and look forward to supporting your child and you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What are some reasons you would contact a school counselor?
- When your student is having difficulty achieving academically.
- When family changes interfere with academic progress.
- When you want to become more involved in your student's educational and career choices.
- When you want to discover available resources and agencies for your student or your family.
- While we can consult with you about your child's schedule, all schedule changes will need to be requested through the grade level AP for your child.
I have a concern about my child's schedule, who should I contact?
While counselors work with parents and students to find the best option available, the counselors at Coleman are not in charge of scheduling. Contact your child's grade level administrator if you have specific concerns about an academic or connection scheduling concern.
Can school counselors provide therapy to my child?
While school counselors have specific training in regards to mental health issues, they are not intended to function as therapists. The role of school counselors is to assist students with academic issues that may interfere with their academic success. Interventions may include brief, short-term counseling. School counselors are equipped to serve as liaisons with outside agencies and can consult with families about the steps to take to link to outside therapeutic services. If you need assistance getting connected with outside agencies and clinicians, please reach out to your child's counselor!
If my child see's the school counselor, will I be contacted?
While parents often reach out first to get things started, school counselors do not contact parents every time they meet with a student. When parents and counselors team up to support a child, it helps to keep in mind that trust and confidentiality are at the heart of counseling. When students enter into a counseling relationship with their school counselor, the school counselor will educate the student about the purposes, goals, techniques and rules of procedure under which they may receive counseling. As counseling continues, counselors and parents may touch base, but the counselor will try to agree with the student on what details to share—unless there's an urgent safety concern. Ultimately, counselors are here to partner with families, supporting each student's growth while honoring their privacy and personal beliefs.
Community Based Mentoring
The GCPS Community-Based Mentoring Program provides mentorship to boys and girls in grades 4-12. The program emphasizes the belief that one caring adult can impact a child's life and building community connections promote a sense of belonging, one relationship at a time.
If you are interested in your student having a mentor through this program, use the mentee application link below to begin the matching process.
