State Required Prevention Education

As of the 2023-2024 school year, the Ohio Department of Education requires school districts to provide annual prevention education to all students in grades 6-12 around suicide prevention, violence prevention, and social inclusion. This requirement aligns with HB123 the Safety And Violence Education (SAVE) Students Act. ODE has shared an approved list of evidenced-based programs for schools to fulfill this new requirement. Upon review of the approved programs, Gahanna has chosen to utilize the Sandy Hook Promise Say Something & Start With Hello Programs. Please read the attached letter for additional information that includes the option of opting your child out of these lessons.

6th Grade Update

  • In ELA, students are wrapping up their reading of the book, The Outsiders. We plan on celebrating by having an Outsiders day at school this Friday, February 23rd! Students have the option to dress up like a greaser (or a Soc if they really want to) during school on Friday! Leather jackets, white shirts, jeans, slicked back hair are all options to dress like your favorite greaser character!
  • In Math and ACE Math 6/7, students did some research on a mathematician and created a poster so others can learn about the cool contributions the person made to society. Ask your child to tell you what they have learned!
  • 6th Grade Robotics Club- Students' have learned to build with VEX Robotics and now are programming their remotes and sensors. We are preparing to share our work with the elementary students at Lincoln Elementary on their Science night March 21, 5-7pm (for those that can attend).
