Meet our new campus nurse, Kayla Blanton, RN

Hello, Kaufman High School students, families, and staff!

My name is Kayla Blanton, RN, and I am excited to serve as your Kaufman High School Nurse and Kaufman ISD District Nurse Coordinator. I look forward to partnering with our students, families, and staff to help keep our Lions healthy, safe, and ready to learn!

Kaufman ISD Health Services supports student health and academic success through direct nursing care, immunization monitoring, state-mandated health screenings, communicable disease monitoring, emergency preparedness, and health and wellness education.

IMPORTANT: Health Services Consent

Parents & Guardians: Please complete the Health-Related Services Consent Form in Skyward for your student.

Parental consent is required for students to receive certain routine school-based health services. Completing this form helps ensure that the school nurse can provide appropriate care when your student visits the clinic.

Please log in to Skyward Family Access and make sure your student’s health information, emergency contacts, and required consent forms are complete and up to date.

HAZEL HEALTH: Virtual Healthcare for Our Students

Did you know Kaufman ISD students have access to Hazel Health?

Hazel Health provides students with access to virtual healthcare services at no cost to families. With parent/guardian consent, students who become ill or experience certain health concerns during the school day may be able to connect with a licensed medical provider through a virtual visit right from the school nurse’s office.

Hazel Health can help with many common concerns, including:

  • Cold and flu-like symptoms
  • Headaches and minor injuries
  • Allergies
  • Asthma-related concerns
  • Pink eye
  • Stomachaches
  • Other common illnesses and health concerns

Hazel Health isn’t limited to the school day! Virtual medical visits are also available from home 6:00 AM–6:00 PM on school days, giving families another convenient option for accessing healthcare.

There is no cost to families for Hazel Health services.

Parent Consent Is Required

Students must have parent/guardian consent on file before they can participate in Hazel Health services.

Parents are encouraged to complete the Hazel Health consent before your student needs care so the service is available when needed.

Keep Us Updated!

Please notify the nurse if your student has:

  • A chronic health condition such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, or severe allergies
  • A new diagnosis or significant change in health
  • Medication that may need to be administered during the school day
  • An emergency action plan or other special healthcare need

Please also make sure your phone numbers and emergency contacts are current so we can reach you quickly when needed.

Medications at School

If your student needs medication during the school day, please contact the nurse’s office regarding Kaufman ISD medication procedures and required documentation.

Students should not bring or share prescription or over-the-counter medications unless permitted under district policy and the appropriate authorization has been completed.

  • Healthy Lions = Ready to Learn!
  • Hydrate – Bring a clear refillable water bottle and drink throughout the day.
  • Get Enough Sleep – Teens should aim for approximately 8–10 hours of sleep each night.
  • Fuel Your Body – Start your day with breakfast and choose nutritious meals and snacks.
  • Wash Your Hands – Wash frequently and remember to cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Stay Home When Sick – Help protect classmates and staff by following district guidelines when you are ill. Remember, your child must be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT MEDS to be able to return to school!
  • Take Care of Your Mental Health – Your mental health matters, too! Reach out to a trusted adult, counselor, nurse, or other support person when you need help.

The nurse’s office isn’t just a place to go when you’re sick! My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, seeking help, and learning how to take care of their health.

Parents and staff are always welcome to contact me with questions or concerns regarding student health. Here’s to a Healthy & Successful School Year!
