Weekly Update
August 8th, 2023
September 11-15, 2023
Message From the Principal
Please make sure you are actively checking your students grades and talking to them about their missing assignments. We have started pulling grades and talking to students who are on academic probation or are ineligible. If they are on academic probation you will receive an email with the document outlining what they are missing, and their plan for bringing their grades up. IF the still have 2 F's the following week when grades are ran again we will have a talk with them and will call home notifying you of their ineligibility. Please make sure you are checking your emails to receive notifications from Mrs. Schrader or myself. Also make sure you have downloaded the App and have activated your account for rooms. This is where teachers will communicate and post assignments.
Connecting with the Counselor
As everyone is starting to settle in (or not) to the school routine, I wanted to offer a couple of infographics to parents about the importance of sleep as well as limiting screen time for students. Their growing bodies are so dependent on good sleep, a healthy diet and adequate physical activity. If your student is struggling with any of these things, please don't hesitate to reach out and let me help you brainstorm some habitual changes to help make your student successful!
All Things Activities and Athletics
Volleyball- No practice Tuesday September 12th due to sports pictures. However, there is optional practice after pictures for setters and hitters.
Pick your kid up on time from practice and games. Make sure you send food for games before and after. We are having issues with water spills at practice and games, players must have a water bottle that doesn't spill, no Stanleys with straws. Coaches cannot give any type of medicine to athletes this must go through the school nurse.
Football- Reminder that 7th Grade plays at Silver Lake Monday at 4:30. We have decided to bring everyone to Nemaha Central on Thursday since 7th graders might get in a few plays. They’re allowed 7 games total. Two of our games are 5th quarters this season, which don’t count for a game. We play at 5:30 that day.
Cross Country- Here is our schedule for this week:
Monday, September 11-MS travels to Jackson Heights for a meet at 4:00 p.m. (information was sent Friday, Sept. 8 about this.)
Tuesday, September 12-MS and HS Team and Individual Pictures-BRING YOUR UNIFORM!-If you need a form to order pictures, please contact the MS office. Practice will follow pictures.
Wednesday, September 13-Practice as usual.
Thursday, September 14-MS and HS travel to McLouth for a meet at 4:00 p.m. (Information will be sent Tuesday).
Friday, September 15-Practice as usual, store items should be here today.
ALSO, If you have been by the HS on meet day, you've seen signs with team members names on them! You may order one for your athlete as well (MS will be displayed at the MS). Prices are as follows-5-10 signs $20; 11-50 signs $12.50. As you can see, the more that order, the cheaper it will be! If you'd like to order a sign with your son or daughter's name on it, please let Coach Williams know by Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. so we can get them ordered and back quickly.
Thanks, Mary
eSports
Practice Begins
Sept 12-16.
Practice at High School 3:45-5:30 Tuesday through Friday. We will get everyone registered in the league and determine what games each student wants to participate in.
Pre-Season
Sept 18-30
Regular Season
10-2 to 11-17
Practice times and dates will vary depending on the games being played by each student. These will be determined during the first week of practice and the pre-season.
Students play one competitive match per week for each game they participate in for 6 weeks. Week 7 is Makeup Week for players who miss a previous week.
Middle School League Competition days and match times:
Chess: Tuesday 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Mario Kart: Wednesdays 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Smash Brothers: Mondays 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Rocket League 2v2: Mondays 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Rocket League 3v3 Thursdays 2:00pm, 3:00pm
Just as it is in other activities students will be encouraged to practice honing their skills at home. This should not be taken as a blanket encouragement to just play as many games as possible. Practice is only effective if it is intentional. A single 20-minute match practiced with a specific goal for improvement will always be more valuable to improving a player’s skill than a three-hour marathon of mindless play.
