September 2025 Newsletter
INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL DAY: 7:45 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
Welcome to September Lieck Families!
I wanted to reflect on the STRONG start we’ve had and thank all the families for your ongoing support.
The first few weeks have been incredibly positive, thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our students, staff, and of course, YOU, our supportive parent community! Your involvement and encouragement play a crucial role in creating a thriving educational environment, and we deeply appreciate all that you do!!
We are officially in Week 4 and here are some of the highlights to help keep our parents informed:
Academic & Learning Updates
- Student Assessments: Our K–5 students are almost finished with the beginning-of-year MAP Reading and Math assessments. These assessments give teachers valuable information about baseline performance and help guide goal-setting for the year. Early childhood students will take a different assessment later in the year that is more developmentally appropriate for them.
- Reading at Home: We encourage all students to read at least 20 minutes every night. This simple routine has a powerful impact on vocabulary development, fluency, and overall academic success.
- Math & Literacy Concepts: Each week, classroom teachers introduce new literacy and math concepts that often serve as the building blocks for future learning. Please check in with your child’s teacher to see what skills are being covered this week and how you can support learning at home.
- Enrichment & Intervention: Every morning from 8:00–8:30am, we have a campus-wide intervention block. During this time, students work on targeted skills to close gaps or extend their learning through more rigorous and challenging concepts.
- Progress Reports: Families can expect progress reports to go home around the 4th–5th week of each grading period. These provide a snapshot of how your child is doing and keep you informed of their growth and areas for improvement.
SEL Development
- Enhancing Social and Emotional Development: We will prioritize creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to grow both academically and personally. Every classroom has a SEL area that focuses on the social emotional needs of students. Often referred to as the "Calming Corner", we are grateful to our counseling team for ensuring each classroom has the necessary calming tools to manage a variety of emotions.
School Home Partnership
- Strengthening School-Home Connections: Building a strong relationship with our school community is vital. We will work diligently to maintain open lines of communication and ensure that parents and guardians are actively engaged in their child’s educational journey. Don't forget to join your child's teacher's Class Dojo to stay connected. Fall conferences start in late October to go over your child's progress. Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you would like to setup a conference call or meeting sooner.
We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to achieving these goals. Your feedback, involvement, and collaboration are invaluable as we work together to support our students’ success. We encourage you to stay connected, participate in school events, and reach out with any questions or concerns.
Progress Reports: (Sept.12)
It is almost time for progress reports! All students PK-5 will receive a progress report for each grading period. The purpose of the Progress Report is to inform parents of the student’s current grades in class and will inform parents of any unsatisfactory work at the time of the report. Progress reports for students in 1st-5th grades should be viewed in the Home Access Center (HAC) by the parent or guardian. Any questions should be directed to the child’s teacher. If a parent/guardian would like a paper copy of their child’s progress report and/or report card, this may be obtained by contacting the child’s school. Students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will receive a paper copy of their child’s progress report which should be signed and returned the day after it is received. These reports will be issued on the fourth or fifth week of each grading period. Progress reports may also be issued any time a student’s progress becomes unsatisfactory.
Safety Drills continue throughout the year:
Safety drills are conducted to prepare schools for emergency situations. Each campus has procedures specific to that campus. These procedures are communicated to appropriate staff and practiced throughout the year.
Thank you once again for all of your support. We look forward to a month ahead, filled with growth, learning, and meaningful connections.
Respectfully,
Ms. Jessica Garza

*Message from the Nurse*
Important: State-Mandated Student Screenings
Dear Parents/Guardians,
In accordance with Senate Bill 12, effective September 1st, 2025, schools are required to obtain parent/guardian consent for all state-mandated health screenings.
Lieck Elementary is scheduled to begin conducting Vision, Hearing, and Acanthosis Nigricans screenings for students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. If time permits, our campus nurse will also screen Pre-K, Kindergarten, and new-to-district students in 2nd and 4th grades.
If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in these screenings, please email our campus nurse, Kristyn Gonzales RN, at kristyn.gonzales@nisd.net , no later than Tuesday, September 2nd.
Attached, you will find additional information about all screenings required by the State of Texas. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our campus nurse.
Thank you for your attention to the matter.

School Advisory Team (SAT)
Dear Lieck Elementary Families,
We invite you to partner with us in shaping the future of our school by serving on our School Advisory Team (SAT).
What is the School Advisory Team?
Every campus in Northside ISD has a School Advisory Team. The SAT’s primary role is to improve student learning. Members work together to review and provide input on important areas such as the Campus Improvement Plan, campus budget, professional learning plan, and other priorities identified by the principal and team members.
Who serves on the SAT?
The SAT is a collaboration of staff, parents, community members, and business representatives. Each campus must attempt to include:
-
At least four staff members
-
At least four parents
-
At least one community member
-
At least one business representative
We are currently recruiting parents to join our team. Your perspective and voice are essential to ensure that our work reflects the needs of our students and families.
When does the SAT meet?
The SAT meets 3–4 times per year at times convenient for participants. This year’s scheduled meetings are:
-
September 30
-
January 13
-
May 19
Agendas are prepared by the principal and shared in advance. Members also have the opportunity to bring forward additional items for discussion.
How to Get Involved:
If you are interested in serving as a parent member of the School Advisory Team, please contact Ms. Garza @ Jess.Garza@nisd.net.
Your participation makes a difference! Together, we can ensure that Lieck Elementary continues to provide the best opportunities for our students.
With appreciation,
Jessica Garza

Drop Off and Dismissal
Parents, you are welcome to walk your child to class during the first two days of school however effective Day 3 our staff will guide your child to their classroom thereafter. You can drop off your child curbside or at the door and our staff will take over from there.
Additionally at dismissal, we highly encourage for families to remain in their vehicle at front pick-up to avoid unsafe, unnecessary crowding. For our "walk-up" parents, we will continue to use the side areas as waiting areas and we will bring your child to you.
*New Policy Notification: Student Communication Devices (HB 1481)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
In alignment with House Bill 1481, we want to inform you of an updated policy regarding student personal communication devices on campus.
This school year, all student communication devices, including smartwatches, personal tablets, and cell phones, must remain in students’ backpacks or stored out of sight throughout the instructional day. These items will be placed in a designated area, such as student cubbies, upon arrival and will not be accessed until the end of the school day.
While this has been our general practice in the past, the policy now applies to all types of personal communication devices, not just cell phones.
We appreciate your support as we continue to maintain a focused and distraction-free learning environment for all students.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Udpate Your Child's Immunizations
Texas law requires all public school children to have current immunizations to attend class. Northside ISD encourages parents to have their children immunized before the first day of school.
For more information please visit https://www.nisd.net/schools/health/vaccinations
A Word from the Nurse
The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.
Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.

Lieck PTA August Update: A Growing Community of Support!
As we wrap up August, we’re thrilled to share that our PTA has gained support from over 200 members and counting across our school faculty and local community. Your continued involvement and encouragement make all the difference as we work together to make every child’s potential a reality.
Get Involved—Your Way!
Joining the PTA is a powerful way to support our school community—and it doesn’t require a time commitment or volunteering. However, if you’re looking for ways to get more involved, we invite you to consider joining PALS or Watch D.O.G.S. These programs offer meaningful opportunities to connect with the students, school, and community members while making a positive impact.
Thank you for the Continued Support!
Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines or stepping into a volunteer role, your support matters. Thank you for being part of our growing PTA family!
