PSAT 8th/9th Grade
Important Information: PSAT for All 8th & 9th Graders
All 8th and 9th-grade students will be taking the PSAT on March 11th at Chardon High School.
There is no cost to parents for this assessment.
The PSAT offers several benefits, including:
- Predicting College Readiness: The PSAT provides valuable insights into college readiness and can help students identify areas for academic growth.
- AP Course Placement: PSAT scores can be used to help guide students in selecting appropriate Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
- National Merit Scholarship Program: High-scoring students may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
We encourage all students to take the PSAT seriously and prepare accordingly. More information about the PSAT will be shared with students in the coming weeks.
ACT and PSAT PREPARATION SEMINARS
Chardon High School will host an ACT preparation seminar on Saturday, February 8th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., here at the high school. Students will learn specific testing & time management strategies to help them score their highest on the ACT—all geared toward increasing their chances for admission & scholarship aid to their colleges of choice. This six-hour session is presented by Next Level Prep, a company known for its subject matter experts in test preparation & college admissions. We highly recommend this seminar for our 10th and 11th grade students who will take the ACT here at the school on March 11th.
Because we are hosting the seminar, the price for our students is $119 each, which also includes a comprehensive workbook, online testing access after the seminar, & free call-in tutoring.

PSAT 8/9 Seminar
This seminar is aimed at students taking their first college entrance exam-like assessment. Although the session is geared toward a general audience, only students who are academically able and serious will keep up with the pace that material is covered.
The seminar helps students understand the test structure, format, and adaptive component, as well as provides concrete test-taking and time management strategies to enable them to approach the test effectively, all of which will help them on future standardized tests. For the Reading & Writing portion of the test, we spend considerable time on how to address the range of difficulty of questions in each of the four academic content domains and 10 skill sets students will encounter. We then delve into mathematics concepts surrounding problem shortcuts and tricks that students can employ to speed through such problems on the test. Many of these types of problems appear on the PSAT/SAT to separate the most elite performers. Every student gets a reference workbook outlining the test structure and key strategies as well as a large collection of practice questions and answers from the College Board bank of questions.
Next Level Prep is a national leader in PSAT, SAT, & ACT preparation. We currently work with over 100 high schools here in Ohio alone & thousands of students (urban, suburban, & small town/rural) each year in states around the country. Our typical students see a 2.0 composite point increase on the ACT or an 80- point increase on the SAT after taking one of our seminars.
Our engaging instructors consistently score 94%-plus A ratings on student evaluations. So, students emerge justifiably confident—with decidedly less anxiety—about their prospects on the test.
To learn more about our seminars, access our brief, 3:32, informational video at
https://youtu.be/96iH4027ZgM or visit our website homepage https://nlpamerica.com.
Price is just $59 for Chardon High School students.
Register online at https://nlpamerica.com/product/chardon-hs-psat89-seminar-february-8-2025/, using a credit card for the $59 payment. Thank you!
**Please note that your high school asks us to conduct our PSAT seminars on a Saturday to keep regular academic classroom time intact.

AFTER PROM
Hello Senior Class parents: CHS After Prom & PTO will host and fund the 2025 After Prom for CHS seniors and their guests on Saturday, May 10 following the Prom dance. For those unfamiliar with After Prom, it is a long-standing tradition held at CHS featuring games, music, refreshments and thousands of dollars in prizes. The intent is to provide students with a safe alternative to continue spending time with their friends and classmates on Prom Night.
The success of the After Prom event is largely dependent on senior class parent volunteers. Specifically, we are looking for parent support in these ways:
(1) After Prom Planning: This will largely begin at our next After Prom meeting, Monday, January 13 at 7:00 pm in the CHS Media Center. We will need an After Prom event co-chair along with chairs for planning sub-committees. If you can oversee a committee, here is the sign-up. If you need more info, feel free to contact me. If you would like to help plan, but can't chair a committee, sign up for "Planning Help" and we'll get you connected.
(2) Volunteering the weekend of the After Prom event: We will need MANY volunteers the weekend of the event with set-up/decorating, working the event, and tear-down. Look for that sign-up in April.
(3) Fundraising through Basketball Concessions: Concession sales fully fund After Prom among other initiatives. We could really use some help finishing off our concession fundraising for the school year. Volunteer slots are 90 minutes. Here are the sign-ups:
Your support is greatly appreciated. We hope to see you at the After Prom meeting on January 13 and look forward to putting on another great event for our students. Don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
