Book Swap Book Swap

Students have loved the opportunity to bring in books from home and swap them out with a new or used ones. Just being around the classes as they looked through all the books and listening to their conversations about the books made the event worth it. We want to continue to create excitement around reading and provide students with as much access to reading material as we can and this turned out to be a great way to do it. The kindergarten class told me that they could spend the entire day down there just reading all the books and be so happy!

Proportional Reasoning with Popcorn Proportional Reasoning with Popcorn

I had the wonderful opportunity to join the 7th grade for math today with a hands on lesson about proportional reasoning. There was a problem directly related to making popcorn at a movie theatre so Mrs. Russell created a real world learning experience for the students to discuss ingredient proportions and serving proportions related to the problem!

Students in grades 3 and 4 paraded through the multi-purpose room in from of the rest of the school and a group of parents and relatives last Friday. After the parade they stood by their displays and talked to all the visitors about what they learned during their integrated China unit of study. The students did an amazing job not only creating their costumes and displays but being able to then present what they learned to their audiences.

5-8 Drawing Elective 5-8 Drawing Elective

Mr. Hill's drawing elective has been very popular with students looking to expand their artistic opportunities outside of the one day a week art special and build upon things they are learning with Mrs. Donahue. Two of our 6th grade students masterpieces are highlighted this week.

Luau This Friday!!! Luau This Friday!!!

Get out your Hawaiian or tropical clothes, grass skirts and flamingo shirts because this Friday is a Luau themed day before we go on break! The afternoon will be full of tropical themed activities for the students because they earned yet another PBIS celebration for being safe, responsible and respectful. Shorts are permitted in the school building, but please make sure you have your winter gear when we go outside because while it may be a tropical mindset, we will still have lots of snow and cold temperatures outside!!!

Donahue's Artisan Spotlight of the Week Donahue's Artisan Spotlight of the Week

By Jayne Donahue, Art Teacher

Congratulations, this week's artists of the week are 5th grader, Owen Rapin, and 3rd grader, Charles Lakus for their pastel landscapes. Owen's piece exquisitely exhibits the lesson with the older students around color blending, and Charles' piece was selected because of the risks that an great artist must take sometimes to learn a new "medium"!
