Community Week August 31, September 1, and September 2 Early Release Days

The Community Week Committee has been meeting throughout the year and over the summer to plan this event for the FHS community. Building supportive relationships with our students and staff through Community Week learning activites will bolster student achievement, engagement and wellness. Special thanks to the Community Week Committee for all their efforts and planning!

What is Community Week?

Community week is a chance for us to build relationships with students and staff, set expectations for the school year, and offer information about student rights, as well as let students know about the wonderful resources that FHS has to offer. The first three days of school will be dedicated to this and building student joy after a few difficult years. After the three initial days, community building will continue throughout the year with a more explicit focus on social justice issues. There will be six additional hours dedicated to building community and culture throughout the year. Community Week student dismissal time is 10:45am.

How will this week be set up?

During the first three days of school students engage in Community Week learning activities in homeroom. Two staff members will work together with the students. Community partners will also join some of the sessions. The Community Week Committee will be sharing the master schedule prior to the start of the school year.

What is the schedule?

The first three days of school will be a half day. Students will be in the building from 7:00-10:45. At the 7:15 bell, students will report to homeroom for Community Week learning and activities. On September 6, the first day of classes, students will visit each of their classes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G).

What are teachers being asked to do with students?

Staff will be asked to facilitate conversations and activities surrounding school expectations and community building. Resources will be provided during the professional development days prior to students arriving.

What will teachers be doing the second half of the day?

Educators will participate in Community Week training with district and community partners for the second half of the school day.
