Dear Huskie Community,
We are entering our first full week of classes and many activities, athletics, and other events start filling the calendar. Our first school-wide event is Open House on Thursday, August 20. More information is below. We start right at 6:45. We anticipate a very high percentage of teacher attendance but any teacher who will not be present will notify you in advance of the event. Parking is tight so please allow plenty of time to park and find your student's first period class. Freshmen parents are also invited to an informational meeting hosted by members of our counseling team beginning at 6:15 in the fieldhouse.
On Friday, we had our grade level assemblies with each class where were welcome the students, set expectations, and encourage participation and involvement in activities, athletics, and events. Here is a link to the class assemblies slide deck if you'd like to know more about the topics we discuss.
Please note, the Board of Education recently voted to change our school calendar for 2026-2027. Here is a link to the updated D203 School Calendar page. Specifically, spring break has been extended through April 6 and the last day of school has been extended to May 26. ACT/Pre-ACT testing will take place before spring break on March 24-25. This is a welcome change that eliminated an eLearning day on April 6, allows spring final exams to all occur in one week, Monday-Wednesday, and eliminates the last day being on a Monday.
Returning families may have noticed we did not print and distribute a handbook during registration this year. We have elected to go with a digital handbook for easier access and cost savings. A link to the handbook can be found at the bottom of each Howler, on our school website, and each student has a huskie icon link on the bottom tray of their chromebook for easy access. Students and families should be sure to take some time to review this important information.
Good luck to our student-athletes who begin competition this week. Go Huskies!!
Sincerely,
Jay Wachtel
