Mr. Mauck's Musings
It was a sad week as we found out Dolly Parton passed away at 80 years old. Jude Kuczynski, who plays our Friday hallway music, honored her by dedicating the day to Dolly and her music. Mrs. Parton was a huge proponent of reading, so Mrs. Burns had a special section in the library this week. You can check that out in the Book Banter section. We did have lots to celebrate as our athletic teams were racking up multiple victories every day. Ava Ballard and Mrs. Kyla Beier were recognized as the student and staff of the week. Mrs. Beier's class made cookies with a twist. Each member of the kitchen groups had to overcome a physical limitation. Each year she has the Blind, Deaf, Mute cookie lab, where students collaboratively make cookies while either blindfolded, wearing ear plugs or taping their mouths. It was enjoyable to watch the kids work together to make some really good cookies. Mrs. Venderley's Ed Professions class spruced up the school with their innovative bulletin boards above the student lockers. This is the third year her classes have done this and this year's are the best.
Student Fees:
We sent out invoices with student fees on Friday. I have received some questions regarding the Student Activity Fee. There is a misconception that this fee is for the student athletic pass. While a portion of the fee does go to the athletic department, the fee is used for many other student activities. A large portion goes to cover transportation and admission to Holiday World and commencement for our seniors. We use the money for our student of the week prizes and rewards, brining in performances like the Shakespeare group and the JCTA performances. The fee covers transportation and registration for our academic teams and treats for all of our students. While students can attend athletic events and student performances for free, the fund is used for many other student activities at Jasper High School.
Athletics and Clubs:
Mr. Kendall asked that I correct the date for the first moratorium week for 2027. The moratorium week for athletic practices will be July 3rd-July 9th. The Volleyball team was winning matches in 3 sets all week. Coach Jennifer Hopf notched her 150 victory earlier this week. Senior Nora Breitwieser set the school record for digs. Nora will be the one wearing the Libero jersey and diving all over the floor. She is exciting to watch. The Volleyball team will be in action at Brownstown Central on Saturday. Boys tennis is at home for our invitational tonight and tomorrow. Girls golf is at Vincennes. The boys Cross Country team travels to Crawford County while the Soccer team looks to stay undefeated at New Albany. The JHS FFA is collecting canned food for the Can-Structure competition. All food donations will be donated to local food banks. The Interact club is collecting board games for the new Boys and Girls Club. If you would like to donate drop off your canned food or board game at the main office from 7-4.
Community Events:
The City of Jasper has provided us with a fall activities calendar outlining all of the activities going on in Jasper in September and October. Alive after 5 is supporting local artists and information is included below. Tri-Kappa is having a garage sale to raise money to support the community. Crane has provided us with their monthly STEM education newsletter.
Tonight is youth night at the Football game this evening. Jasper will host the Evansville Harrison Warriors at 7:30 and we will recognize our youth JFL players. The student theme is USA. Students and parents are encouraged to wear Red, White and Blue. Show up and be loud and proud. Have a wonderful weekend and Go Cats!
