Attention: WHS Cubs of Character!

Dear WHS Families,

As a character-based school, we strive to partner with you as we help your child thrive by becoming well-rounded academically, socially, and emotionally. As part of this journey, most of you know that each month we come together as a school community and focus on a specific character trait. We listen to daily affirmations centered on the current trait over the loudspeaker in the morning, teachers delve deeper into the concept during class, and we send home the monthly bucket puzzle coloring sheets for you to complete with your child. We also use each month as an opportunity to unite as a WHS family while we all wear our red shirts. Please have your child wear his/her red Cubs of Character shirt on the following dates in order to kick-off that month's character trait:

Touchdown Tower & NFL Nook! Touchdown Tower & NFL Nook!

Attention: Football Enthusiasts!

A special thank you goes out to the HSA for honoring our request to purchase two sets of NFL books and a shelving unit to be housed in the Main Office. Then, the MacConnell Family (pictured below) took the initiative to the next level by purchasing a gorgeous reading bench & accent pillows to create a nook, as well as designing the Touchdown Tower & football field signage, courtesy of their company, JMDesigns27@gmail.com.

Each day, our third-grade football fans have been reading about their favorite teams & players. During the second marking period, we intend to make the books available to all of the grade levels!

Building a Reading Life! Building a Reading Life!

Starbucks Helps WHS Promote Literacy!

We teach children that reading is a lifelong skill that we all use every day. Third-grade teachers, Mrs. Laura Terranova (pictured below, top-left) and Mrs. Heather Higgins (pictured below, bottom-left) explained to their students that they always encounter people reading, such as when they go to Starbucks... And, that is when they hatched an idea! The teachers decided to approach the management at Starbucks in Branchburg and asked for a donation of cups. Then, they held a Cafe Day in their classrooms where students were able to drink their snack juices out of the cups during their reading period. The children enjoyed the special treat and the teachers even dressed like baristas for the auspicious occasion!
