A Message from the MUHS Leadership Team
Dear MUHS Students and Families,
If you’ve entered through our front doors recently, you’ve probably noticed an important change: we have a new Welcome Office in place. This renovation is designed to strengthen school safety while also creating a more welcoming and organized entry experience for visitors and students.
Beginning Monday, all visitors arriving during the school day (8:45 a.m.–3:15 p.m.) will use the updated front door intercom system (a black button, to the right of the front door). A Campus Supervisor in the Welcome Office will ask for your name and the purpose of your visit before unlocking the door and directing you to the main office.
Students will also notice that the vestibule doors leading north toward the Cafeteria and south toward the Commons will remain locked during most class periods. The doors will automatically unlock during passing times and lunch blocks to allow easy movement between the Cafeteria, Commons, and Courtyard. If you happen to be in the vestibule when the doors are locked, the Campus Supervisor can quickly let you through.
In addition to improving visitor screening, the new Welcome Office allows staff to monitor exterior doors throughout the building from one central location. We appreciate everyone’s patience and feedback as we launch this new system and continue working to keep MUHS safe, secure, and welcoming for all.
Warmly,
Caitlin Steele, Principal
Ben Weir, Assistant Principal
Sean Farrell, Activities Director
Julie Pettis, Student Response Coordinator

Looking for House Plants to Brighten Our School
We love having plants in our school to make the space feel welcoming. If you have a BIG houseplant that has outgrown your home, consider donating it to the school. We have great sunlight and plenty of spaces with high ceilings to let plants grow!

Visual Arts
Students in the Visual Arts had the opportunity to visit the Town Hall Theater and view Sandglass Theater’s production of “Feral.” The show was an inspiring way to kick off our character-building unit in drawing class. Hunter was chosen to go on stage and participate in the show!
This week, the Town Hall Theater is hosting the New England Family Theater Festival. Be certain to check out their schedule!

Driver Education
Modeling Driving Without Distraction
Dear Community Members,
Last week, I had a concerning experience with a student who was driving through the parking lot with a cellphone in hand. The very next day I witnessed an adult exhibiting poor choices in the parking lot as well.
I’m sharing this not to single anyone out, but to ask for your help in modeling safe driving habits for our students. I regularly see phones or food in hand, animals sitting on driver’s laps, make-up being applied or other personal hygiene activities taking place while people are driving on campus.
In Driver Ed, we talk a lot about how distraction makes us both dangerous and vulnerable behind the wheel. Even at low speeds, the risks are real—what feels routine or harmless can have serious consequences. Just as importantly, students notice what we do. When our actions don’t align with what we teach them about safe driving, it can undermine those lessons.
I care deeply about this topic, as you might expect, and I know we all share a commitment to keeping our community safe. I’m asking for your help in reinforcing that message through our daily habits.
Please take a moment to:
Put phones away while driving
Minimize distractions
Keep animals, food, and drinks secured
Slow down and follow traffic patterns in the lot
Come to a full stop at posted signs
These small choices make a meaningful difference—for our safety and for the example we set for students.
Thank you for your attention and for helping keep our campus safe.
Sincerely,
George Rooney
