1SC Shout Outs! 1SC Shout Outs!

JH Career Fair

The JH Career Fair took place on Wednesday. 12 speakers were booked to come speak to our JH Students about various careers. Unfortunately, six speakers had to cancel the morning of the event. While not ideal, the staff and students of Sand Creek stepped up to show what it means to be 1SC! The following staff and students stepped in to speak about various careers, side businesses, leadership opportunities, or Vo-Tech/co-op programs. Special thanks to the following staff and students for pivoting at the last minute and saving the day:

  • Meg Lam (Croswell Opera House)
  • Eric Serin (Food Trucks)
  • Abby Shindorf (Social Worker)
  • Keisha Maybee (Counselor)
  • Annalise Keech and Taylor McLaughlin (Babysitting)
  • Dylan Elliott, Lily Hawkins, and Emmie Maxson (Student Leadership Opportunities)
  • Sydney Marks and Brady Mullins (Assisted Speakers)

Thank you also to the following for attending, speaking, or making the day successful by your role behind the scenes:

  • Ashlee Pelham (speaker-Ms. River Raisin)
  • Kelly Williams (speaker-Licensed Childcare)
  • Derek Bycraft (speaker-YMCA/Camps)
  • Hannah Stepp (speaker-Hannah's Hawaiian Shaved Ice)
  • Kerri Schadewald (speaker-Hospice Nurse)
  • Nic Wilson (speaker-Madison Fire)
  • Jen Pawson Wheeler (speaker-licensed massage therapist)
  • Steve Gonzalez and Kelly McNicol (Align Lenawee/Lenawee Now-helping to organize this event)
  • Laurie Boss and Cafe Staff (refreshments)
  • Chris Ondrovick and Custodial Staff (set up)
  • Tammy Powers, Anna Gautz, Vanessa Rojas, and Sarah Hayton (helping organize in the chaos!)
  • Sophia Comar, Maddox Wheeler, Laylah Rempert, Peyton Luck, Jill Emery, and Megan Huston (escorting speakers to their assigned locations)
  • JH Staff and Paras for escorting student groups

It is a true blessing to work and serve in this community with such amazing students, staff, and community members!

SC Student Government Volunteers at Salvation Army

The Sand Creek Student Government volunteered at the Salvation Army setting up for Toys for Tots. It was a wonderful day of serving our community and providing some much needed muscle and youthful energy!

Each holiday season, The Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program work together to make sure children in need don’t go without Christmas gifts. Toys for Tots focuses on collecting new, unwrapped toys through community donations, while The Salvation Army often handles family registration, screening, and distribution through programs like Angel Tree. This partnership goes beyond toys alone. The Salvation Army frequently provides additional support such as holiday meals, coats, and other essentials that help ease the financial burden on families during the season.

Both organizations rely heavily on local volunteers and community generosity to collect, sort, and deliver gifts—especially for older children, who are often the most overlooked. Together, they bring hope and holiday joy to families who might otherwise face an empty Christmas morning. It was wonderful to help support this worthy organization.
