A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
I hope you had the opportunity to watch the Artemis II launch on Thursday—it was truly a breathtaking sight. The power and precision of the liftoff were incredible, and it served as a powerful reminder of what innovation, teamwork, and perseverance can achieve. Moments like these connect directly to the learning happening in our classrooms each day. Our students are building the critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills that will prepare them for the future.
Of course, it’s hard not to get caught up in the excitement of March Madness this time of year! Here at school, we brought that same energy to our own “March Madness,” featuring a bracket of wonderful books. Students had the opportunity to read, compare, and vote for their favorites, building both their love of reading and their critical thinking skills along the way. It’s been a fun and engaging way to celebrate literacy while tapping into the excitement of the season!
Next week, our 3rd-5th graders will complete the IL Assessment of Readiness (IAR) tests each morning and will have an adjusted schedule the rest of the day. As a reminder, students cannot have access to electronic devices during testing so we will ask students to put all smart watches in their backpacks during testing times.
I hope you have a wonderful long weekend.
Quote of the Week
Each week students may submit a positive quote that captures and motivates their peers to persevere and feel good. We then showcase the quotes throughout the school building. Students may submit a quote, using this link.
Kindness is key!
The moment you give up is the moment you lose (so don't give up.)
SCHOOL NEWS
2026-27 Class Placements
We strive to establish a positive learning setting for your child by carefully considering various factors when determining class placements. These factors include the child's academic strengths, areas for improvement, IEP and 504 plan requirements, English language support needs, social-emotional considerations, peer interactions, and preferred teaching styles.
Please note that we do not accommodate specific friendship or teacher requests for class assignments. However, we value your input on the classroom environment that would best support your child's learning and development.
If you would like to provide us with your feedback, please complete this form. Any correspondence regarding class placements is due by 4 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Donations Needed
Dr. Krauter's class is collecting toiletries to donate to the Housing Opportunities Development Corporation (HODC), an organization that assists people who need housing. People who are unhoused often need toiletries, and we can help. We’re also collecting T-shirts without distracting logos or sequins to make bags for the toiletries we collect. Donations can be placed in bins, which will be placed at every entrance around the school. This project will take place from March 20 through April 15. More information on HODC is available at https://hodc.org/.
Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.

We are still looking for a Cultural Fair Chair - Please reach out to Diana or Anna if you would like to chair this event. (wmpto28@gmail.com)
CULTURAL FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! Our annual Cultural Fair will be on April 17th and we need a chair to organize the event and volunteers to showcase a country! Please sign up here to volunteer! If there are not enough parent volunteers to showcase the countries, we will have to cancel this event. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080F4CA8AA2FA1FE3-62925542-cultural#/
- To showcase a country, you can make a posterboard about the country, bring items from the country, or anything you would like to teach kids more about cultures around the world!
- Volunteers will be given a budget to decorate the booth and to purchase food for the attendees! Volunteers attend the night of the event to tell students more about the country and its culture.
- The PTO will supply flags to decorate your table, passport books for all kids so they can visit each table to learn more about each country.
- The PTO can also pay a stipend for individuals and groups to come perform!
- We also need help organizing the event! The chair coordinates tables for parent volunteers and schedules the performances! Most of the time commitment will be done via email and to attend the night of the event.
