DECEMBER EVENTS
Storytelling
This month, Chief of Staff Sheleah Reed was one of our guest readers. Ms. Reed delighted the students reading Humpty Dumpty.
Outreach Thursday
Black Elementary Literacy Night
Families had an opportunity to learn about FACE initiatives.
Parent Support Groups
Families at Black Elementary received guidance from FACE Specialist Nancy Gauthier on how to effectively create a Parent Support Group and the benefits of having this kind of support at campuses. Ms. Gauthier always makes herself available to attend schools and meet with parents to address their questions regarding creating a PTA, PTO, or Parent Support Group.
Bank of America Artwork
Black Elementary students’ artwork is showcased in Bank of America, Greenspoint location. Our young artists expressed their feelings of the holiday using a variety of colors, expressions and blended symmetry. What an amazing job!
Family and Community University
The Family and Community University continues enrolling more and more families every day! Either in person, virtually, or through pre-recorded sessions, families have a variety of topics of interest. Parents and caregivers who earn 15 credits due to attending 15 sessions are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony that will be held in May.
With Aldine's Human Resources collaboration, the university has included the Instructional paraprofessional Academy. Hence, parents who seek to work for the district have a better understanding of the instructional paraprofessionals' duties and responsibilities.
The Family and Community University is not only fulfilling the purpose of providing adult education but also a great source of employment opportunities.

Book Study
Parents can participate in the Reading Club, which holds English and Spanish sessions monthly.
Literacy Computer Class
Parents can receive their literacy computer certification by attending classes at Blanson High School.
ESL Classes
The FAC University offers in-person ESL classes at St. John Newman and St Matthew.
Share the Joy Event
Thanks to the generosity of community partners and district staff, about 200 Aldine families were invited to participate in the Aldine's Share the Joy Event at the MOC on Tuesday, December 13.
Each campus selected two families to receive a Christmas gift consisting of a box full of groceries donated by the Greater Houston Church, a weighted blanket donated by BDP International, Inc., and a $15 gift card presented by FACE community partners and by district staff.
Some families also received a jacket donated by the Association of Latinx Leaders in Aldine. The gifts that were not picked up were donated to families at Haverstock Hills Apartments.
Blankets Distribution
We are blessed to count on community partners constantly seeking ways to help the Aldine community. Thanks to a fantastic donation of blankets provided by BDP International, Inc., Aldine families and district staff stayed warm during the holidays.
Besides distributing blankets to families at district events, FACE gave blankets to the DAB and BAM staff and shared the joy with the Transportation, Building and Properties, and Child Nutrition Departments.
We are looking forward to sharing more resources with our Aldine community!

Quote of the Month
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.”
