Superintendent's Weekly Update
9/23/2022
March 31, 2023
Dear Weymouth Public Schools' Community,
It was another busy week as we close out the month of March and many of our schools look to continue MCAS, parent-teacher conferences, and special programs next week. This week's updates include:
- As a reminder, there is no school next Friday, April 7 in observance of Good Friday.
- New WPS Textile Program! As you may be aware, effective November 1, 2022, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has added textiles to the list of waste bans in the State. Textiles should not be placed in your curbside trash or recycling bins. Weymouth Public Schools has partnered with Bay State Textiles to provide textile recycling bins at schools around Weymouth, including Chapman Middle School, Weymouth High School, Academy Avenue Elementary School and more (full list here: https://www.smore.com/hwu6k). To date, this program has prevented 772+ tons of textiles from entering landfills, has saved the Town of Weymouth in excess of $56,000 in disposal costs, and earned more than $77,000 for Weymouth Public Schools. Check out the Textile Recycling Hub for important information on recycling textiles and the textile recycling bin program: https://www.smore.com/yrs65b.
- Congratulations to all the WPS winners of the Weymouth - Braintree Elks #2232 Americanism Essay Contest Awards! You can find the full list of winners below who submitted essays written to the theme of “What is your American Dream?” This week's awards ceremony was an inspirational night filled with promise for our future generations.
- Starting April 1, 2023, MassHealth will begin the eligibility redetermination process, renewing all 2.3M members over the following next 12 months. More information here: https://www.mass.gov/masshealth-eligibility-redeterminations
Have a great weekend, and we'll see you back in school on Monday.
Kind Regards,
Robert Wargo

Student Services Corner:
Our bowling plans were cancelled due to a change in schedule, but our post grads were still able to score a strike with a trip to the the Wildcat Cafe! Before our trip down to the cafe, the students were able to look at the menu, choose a meal, figure out the total cost, and practice their social skills and table manners. Great job, post grads!
We Can't Say It Enough: We ❤️ Our SRO's
