At SHS, We Strive to Show Up S.H.A.R.P.
Self-Aware Honest Accountable Respectful Persistent
From the Principal
Dear SHS Families,
In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, I want to take a moment to share my gratitude for our entire SHS community. Every one of you plays an essential role in making our school a place where students can learn, feel supported, and belong.
-
Our teachers bring learning to life every day and help students discover what’s possible.
-
Our support staff keep our school running smoothly and ensure that students have what they need to feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn.
-
Our parents and guardians partner with us in countless ways, often while balancing challenges that are not always visible, and we appreciate your trust and collaboration.
-
And to our students, you are the heart of our community and the reason we do this work. Your resilience, energy, and growth inspire us daily.
I’m grateful and fortunate to serve as your principal, and I truly value our partnership. As we head into the long weekend, I hope you find moments of rest, connection, and care; whatever that looks like for you and your family.
Wishing you a peaceful and restorative Thanksgiving break.
Sincerely,
Principal da Silva

Mark your Calendar! Parents/Guardians Partnership Council Meeting, December 4th.
Because we don’t have school on the fourth Thursday in November or December, our Partnership Council meeting has been moved to Wednesday, December 4th. We will be meeting at 5:30 in the SHS Library.
Assistant Principal Betsy Johnson will join us to share information about advanced courses and pathways available to all students, how to access them, and the opportunities they can open up, including the possibility of earning an Honors Diploma. These offerings and programs can truly give students a strong advantage as they move beyond high school.
We hope you can join us for this informative presentation and conversation!
Welcome Our New College and Career Specialist!
We're delighted to announce that our new College and Career Specialist, Katrina Stillwell, started today. Please join me in welcoming her to our SHS family! Beginning with our next bi-weekly family newsletter, Katrina will continue the College and Career Corner to share the latest resources and opportunities for students.
This is what Katrina would like you to know about her:
"I am an Oregon native, born and raised in Eugene. I attended Oregon State University and completed my Bachelor of Science. I am currently working on my Master’s in Education at Portland State University. Before joining Springfield High School, I was a College and Career Coordinator at Willamette High School. I believe there is a path for every student, whether that’s a four-year university, community college, trade program, military service, or entering the workforce. I want students to feel informed, supported, and confident about their options after high school."
Students, you are welcome to stop by the College and Career Center to introduce yourself before or after school, or during breaks or lunch.
AVID Family Night
Going to College and Beyond!
Our AVID Family Night on Wednesday, November 19th was a wonderful event, with many families joining us from the 9th–12th grade AVID Elective classes. Students guided their families on an “AVID Journey,” beginning with 9th graders sharing how they use WICOR, 10th graders demonstrating Tutorials, and 11th and 12th graders showcasing the process of preparing for college and exploring financial aid.
The evening also included raffle prizes and a delicious dinner of pizza and salad provided by Springfield Nutrition Services. A big thank-you to Allison Sharpe, our AVID Coordinator, and to our amazing AVID Elective teachers—Ryan Elliot, James March, and Natalie Rytlewski—for making the night such a success!
85 to Thrive!
Attendance Matters! Thinking about going to Winter Formal?
Make sure your attendance is on track! To be eligible to attend the dance, your attendance must be at 85% or higher between December 1st and January 19th. Being in class (on time and every day) helps you stay engaged, stay caught up, connected, and stay eligible for the fun.
Winter Formal will be held on Saturday, January 24th, from 7-10 pm. We hope to see you there!

Amazon Wish List
Springfield High School’s Family Resource Center is a great place for students to get supplies and needs met right on campus. In order to continue to create a place they can come and get those needs met we have created an Amazon Wish List of the items most used and needed in our Family Resource Center. If you have any questions about items that may not be on this list or items on this list please contact Carole Sylliaasen at carole.sylliaasen@springfield.k12.or.us or 541-246-7821. Thank you for your willingness to help serve the needs at Springfield High!
