Dear KMS Families,

WOW, March already??? Time is flying! We know as the school year goes on, it only seems to become busier and busier, so here are a few things to keep on your radar this week and in the weeks ahead.

As required by state safety regulations, we will be conducting a lockdown drill sometime this week. We want to give families a heads up so students know what to expect. These drills are an important part of keeping our school community safe, and our staff will be there to support students throughout. Please refer to the flyers below for more information.

Also this week, if you have not yet completed the School Climate and Connectedness Survey, please do so by March 20! We are hoping to reach our goal of 50 percent participation this year, and every response makes a difference. Check the flyer in this newsletter for a QR code to access the survey in your preferred language.

Additionally, we are so excited that the 8th grade science fair is returning! The date is set for March 5 in the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium, so come cheer on our young scientists! Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for the following week, March 11 and 12, and then before you know it Spring Break will be here! We hope everyone will get a chance to recharge!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns our doors are always open. (Except during the upcoming lockdown drill.)

Rena Rankin, Principal

Judith Bruns, Assistant Principal

LOCKDOWN DRILL THIS WEEK

These drills are a standard safety practice in schools across the country and help prepare students and staff to respond calmly and effectively in the event of an emergency. The purpose of practicing is to ensure that everyone knows what to do, where to go, and how to stay safe. Just like fire drills, lockdown drills build confidence and readiness so our school community can be better protected in any situation.

Below you can read more about our Standard Response Protocols, including types of drills and parental guidance for each type. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the KMS Office at 907-486-7460.

8TH GRADE SCIENCE FAIR: MARCH 5

Get ready to experience The Power of Wonder as our 8th graders showcase their hard work, creativity, and scientific thinking at the KMS 8th Grade Science Fair on Thursday, March 5 at the Gerald C Wilson Auditorium Foyer.

With over 100 student projects on display, this is shaping up to be one of the most impressive academic events of the year. Students have been researching, experimenting, building, testing, and refining their ideas, and they are excited to share their discoveries with our community.

Viewing Times:

10:00 am to 3:00 pm – Open to students

5:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Open to the public

That means families, friends, and community members are all welcome to attend during the evening session.

Visiting students will receive stickers to award to projects they find interesting, and everyone who attends will receive a fun science themed favor. We will also have awards, medals, ribbons, and certificates recognizing student achievement.

Educators are especially encouraged to stop by. There will be an Educator Table with sticky notes and pens so you can leave a message for former students on the back of their project board. You are part of their success story.

We hope you will join us on March 5 to celebrate curiosity, innovation, and the outstanding work of our KMS 8th graders. Come see why we love science at KMS!
