Join Us for Financial Aid Assistance Night – TODAY, November 21 Join Us for Financial Aid Assistance Night – TODAY, November 21

Hello GHS Families,

We’re excited to invite you to our Financial Aid Assistance Night TODAY, Thursday, November 21, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the GHS Community Room. This evening is all about understanding the ins and outs of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and how it connects students with funding for college, adult education programs, and beyond. FAFSA opens doors to grants, scholarships, work-study jobs, and student loans, making it a key resource for post-high school plans.

To encourage student and parent participation, we’re adding a little extra incentive:

  • Senior students who attend will receive an invitation to a breakfast buffet at Weiss Bakery in Goshen.
  • Parents in attendance will be entered into a drawing for gift cards.

It’s a night filled with information, incentives, and a bit of fun! We’ll have a college financial aid director to lead the discussion and answer any questions. While we will have a Google Meet link and a recording for later viewing, you must attend in person to be eligible for the breakfast and gift card incentives.

We look forward to guiding you through the FAFSA process and answering your questions!

Week 3: Site Developers – Getting the Land Ready

Hello again, young creators!

Last week, we met the architects, the imagination builders who design our dream schools. Now, it’s time to learn about another important team member: site developers!

Site developers are the people who get the land ready for the school to be built. They make sure everything is set before construction begins. Here’s what they do:

  • Clear the Ground: They remove trees, rocks, and anything else that’s in the way.

  • Cut Down Trees: Sometimes, trees need to be moved so the school can have enough space.

  • Make the Land Flat: They level the ground to create a strong foundation for the school.

They work with big machines to prepare the land,
Making sure the site is ready and grand!
Clearing trees and rocks, making the ground neat,
So the builders can start with a solid beat!

Making the Land Flat:

Site developers use special tools to make the land flat. Newer machines like dozers, graders, and excavators have GPS systems that help them know exactly how flat the ground is. These GPS-equipped blades sense the earth and drop to the right level, making sure the foundation is strong and perfect!

With GPS on blades, they measure and see,
How flat the ground needs to be.
Dropping blades to the level just right,
So the school can stand strong and bright!

But that’s not all! Landscape architects are a special kind of architect who design the outdoor areas of the school. They plan things like:

  • Sidewalks: Safe paths for walking around the school.

  • Parking Lots: Places for cars to park.

  • Sports Fields: Spaces for games and physical activities.

  • Rainwater Drainage: Systems to handle rain and prevent flooding.

Landscape architects plan with care,
Designing paths and fields so fair.
They manage rain so floods stay away,
Creating beautiful spaces where kids can play!

Activity for Families:

  • 🏞️ Design Your School’s Playground!
Imagine you’re a site developer and a landscape architect. What outdoor spaces would you create for your dream school? Draw a picture of your playground, parking lot, or sports field. Think about how to keep everything safe and fun!

Fun Fact:

  • Site developers use big machines like dozers and excavators with GPS to make sure the land is perfectly flat. This helps builders create a strong and safe school!

Isn't it amazing how site developers and landscape architects prepare the land and design the outdoors for our dream school? They make sure the ground is ready and the outside areas are just as awesome as the inside!

Next week, we'll meet the construction workers who build our dream school from the ground up—putting up walls, floors, and roofs! Stay tuned to discover more about the awesome jobs that help build our schools.

Seniors Where To Wednesday Moment: The Real Meaning of Thanksgiving for College Applicants

Previously, we challenged college-bound students to complete at least one college application by Thanksgiving. With the holiday quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to reflect on your progress and take meaningful steps forward in your college admissions journey.

Thanksgiving marks a unique point in the process: early application deadlines are behind us, and the next wave of deadlines is just around the corner. Whether you’ve already submitted several applications or are just getting started, this break is your opportunity to refocus, recharge, and make progress.

What Seniors Should Be Doing Over Thanksgiving Break:

  • Organize Your To-Do List:
Take stock of where you are in the process. Are there essays to write, transcripts to request, or recommendation letters to follow up on? Use this time to complete tasks without the stress of balancing schoolwork.

  • Stay Focused on Your Grades and Activities:
Your senior year achievements still matter! Colleges will look at your performance throughout the year, so don’t let your grades or involvement slip.

  • Express Gratitude:
Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to thank the people who’ve supported you in your college journey—teachers, counselors, coaches, family, and friends. Take the time to make it personal. A simple email is a great way to express appreciation, but a handwritten note or card adds an extra-special touch. It’s a thoughtful way to show just how much their guidance has meant to you.

Why Thanksgiving Matters for College Applicants

This season is not just about taking a breather; it’s about:

  • Reflecting on your progress.
  • Connecting with those who inspire and guide you.
  • Preparing for the next steps in your journey.

Remember, every student’s path to college is different, and that’s okay. Focus on what you need to do to move forward and finish the process strong.

From CCR and Guidance, we wish you a restful, productive, and meaningful Thanksgiving break. Use this time wisely, and don’t forget to celebrate how far you’ve come—and the people who helped you along the way.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Goshen High School!
