A Message from School Leadership
Dear Horizon Families, We are off to a strong start! During these first weeks of school, our students have been learning classroom routines, building relationships, and settling into their new learning environments. Walking through our classrooms, we have seen students participating in discussions, working together, asking thoughtful questions, and demonstrating enthusiasm for the year ahead. Thank you to our families for your patience and partnership as everyone adjusts to new schedules and procedures. Beginning a new school year takes cooperation from students, families, teachers, and staff. Your support at home helps us create a safe, welcoming, and productive school community where every student can succeed. We also want to recognize our outstanding teachers and staff. They have worked tirelessly to prepare classrooms, support students, communicate with families, and make the beginning of the year successful. Their commitment to our students is visible throughout the building, and we are grateful for everything they do each day. We look forward to continuing this positive momentum and making this a year filled with learning, leadership, and growth.
Learning in Action at Horizon
Learning is already underway throughout Horizon! Students are participating in engaging lessons, practicing new skills, working collaboratively, and learning how to take responsibility for their academic progress.
These early weeks are especially important because teachers are establishing routines and learning more about each student’s strengths and needs. Families can help by asking students what they learned each day, reviewing classroom communication, encouraging daily reading, and making sure students arrive prepared and ready to learn.
We are excited to share photographs and highlights from our classrooms throughout the school year so families can see Horizon students learning, growing, and leading.
Leadership Spotlight: Integrity
At Horizon Leadership Academy, leadership begins with integrity. A student demonstrates integrity by being honest, making responsible decisions, accepting responsibility for mistakes, and choosing to do what is right - even when no one is watching.
Integrity can be demonstrated in many everyday situations. Students show integrity when they complete their own work, return something they borrowed, follow classroom expectations, tell the truth, or stand up respectfully for someone else.
Families can reinforce integrity at home by praising honesty, discussing the consequences of different choices, and encouraging children to take responsibility for their actions. When school and home work together, we help students become trustworthy, responsible, and compassionate leaders.
Celebrating Horizon Leaders
Throughout the year, we will recognize students who demonstrate Horizon’s leadership expectations through their words, choices, and actions. Recognition may highlight students who show responsibility, respect, perseverance, kindness, integrity, or a commitment to learning.
We encourage every student to remember that leadership is not limited to receiving an award or holding a special position. Leadership is demonstrated each day through small choices: helping a classmate, listening respectfully, completing an assignment, solving a problem peacefully, or encouraging someone who is struggling.
We are proud of our Horizon students and look forward to celebrating their growth as learners and leaders.
Blue Jays Volleyball Celebrates Three Victories
Our Middle School Girls Volleyball team is off to an outstanding start with three exciting victories! The Blue Jays defeated ILTexas 2–0 and earned a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Harmony Sugar Land. In all three games, our athletes demonstrated incredible teamwork, determination, energy, and sportsmanship from beginning to end. Congratulations to our talented players and dedicated coaches on these well-earned wins. We are incredibly proud of the way our girls represent Horizon Leadership Academy - keep up the great work, Blue Jays! 💙
Celebrating 100% Family Connection
We are proud to celebrate an important achievement in family communication: 100% of our 197 Horizon Leadership Academy families are now connected through ParentSquare!
When we launched ParentSquare , our goal was simple - to ensure that no family misses an important school update. Today, every Horizon family can be reached through the platform, and 66% of our families are already using the ParentSquare app to receive real-time information.
ParentSquare has helped our community receive schedule changes and school news faster, complete permission slips and forms more easily, communicate quickly during emergencies, and access messages in each family’s preferred language.
This achievement would not have been possible without the commitment of our staff and the participation of our incredible families. Thank you for partnering with us and helping build a stronger, better-connected Horizon community!
Fall MAP Testing
Fall MAP Testing is underway at Horizon Leadership Academy. MAP assessments help teachers identify each student’s current academic strengths, areas for growth, and individual learning needs. The results are not used as grades; instead, they help teachers plan instruction, set learning goals, and monitor student progress throughout the school year. Please help your child do their best by ensuring they arrive at school on time, get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring a fully charged device if required. Encourage your child to take their time and give their best effort on every question!
Reminders
Please make sure your child has all the required school supplies and brings them to school each day. Having the correct materials - including pencils, notebooks, folders, and other grade-level supplies—helps students stay organized, participate fully in lessons, and be ready to learn. Please check your child’s supplies regularly and replace any items that have been lost, used, or damaged. Thank you for helping our students begin each day prepared for success!

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Drop-off starts at 7:30 AM, classes begin at 8:00 AM
Pick-up procedures differ by grade
Student safety remains our highest priority. Families can help arrival and dismissal run safely and efficiently by following all established traffic procedures and staff directions.
Please have students ready to exit the vehicle when arriving at school, remain in the designated traffic lane, and avoid stopping in unauthorized areas. During dismissal, students may only leave through their assigned dismissal method unless the school has received an approved change from a parent or guardian.
Please be patient during these first weeks as families and students become more familiar with the process. Following the same procedures each day helps protect our students and keeps traffic moving efficiently.
📢 Uniform Reminders
All Horizon Leadership Academy students, except preschool students, must wear the official school uniform each day. Uniforms should be clean, properly fitted, and worn throughout the entire school day, including field trips. Approved uniform pants are navy blue, khaki, or black, and students must wear an approved navy blue or green polo shirt. Closed-toe, securely fastened shoes are required; sandals, Crocs, slides, flip-flops, slippers, and roller shoes are not permitted. During cold weather, students may wear solid navy blue, green, or black outerwear without large graphics or distracting designs. Hoodies, pajama-style jackets, blankets, jeans, cargo pants, leggings, and joggers are not allowed. Please review the complete uniform policy poster carefully to ensure your student is ready to represent HLA with pride! Click the below link read more about HLA Uniform Policy
Horizon Uniform Logo Stickers Now Available
Horizon DTF iron-on logo stickers are now available for purchase from the front office for $2 each. These high-quality transfers can be applied to an approved polo shirt, giving families a convenient and affordable uniform option. Elementary and middle school students must wear hunter green polos, while high school students must wear navy blue polos. Place the logo on the left chest, cover it with parchment paper or a thin cloth, and press firmly with a steam-free iron on medium-high heat for 15–20 seconds. Allow it to cool completely before slowly removing the clear film, then press it again for five seconds to seal the edges. Families may also continue ordering complete uniforms through Global Schoolwear.
Attendance Matters
Regular and punctual attendance is essential to student success. When students arrive late or miss school, they lose valuable instruction and may have difficulty keeping up with classroom learning.
Please establish consistent morning and evening routines that help your child arrive at school on time and ready to learn. Whenever possible, schedule appointments outside instructional hours. If your child must be absent, notify the school and provide the required documentation.
Every school day matters, and every minute of instruction counts.
