A message from the Superintendent

Dear Everett Public Schools community,

Welcome to the 2026-27 school year! We are excited to welcome our new and returning students back to Everett Public Schools.

Across our district, our administrators, teachers, and staff have been working hard to make sure our schools are ready for a strong start. There is so much excitement as we prepare to welcome students back into our classrooms and begin another year of learning.

In Everett Public Schools, we want every student to be inspired by new possibilities, achieve their goals, and thrive in school and beyond.

There is also a lot to look forward to across our district. Thanks to our community’s support of the February 2026 School Construction Bond and Education Levy, along with the voter-approved 2022 Capital Levy, important investments are underway to support students and schools for years to come.

One of the most visible investments is the new Jackson Elementary School. Next week, students and staff will begin the year in a beautiful new building designed specifically to meet the needs of today’s students and support high-quality teaching and learning for years to come. We look forward to sharing updates as projects move forward throughout our district.

Thank you to our families and community for your continued partnership and support of our students. I wish everyone a wonderful first day of school and a successful 2026-27 school year. We cannot wait to see you!

Be safe and be well,

Dr. Ian B. Saltzman

Superintendent

NEW Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, Everett Public Schools is adopting the “I Love U Guys” Standard Response Protocol (SRP) as part of our ongoing commitment to school safety and emergency preparedness.

The SRP is a nationally recognized framework used by K-12 schools across the country. It provides clear, consistent actions and language that students, staff, families, and first responders can use during an emergency.

The new protocol closely aligns with the safety procedures already used in Everett Public Schools, with one important terminology change: SECURE will replace the term LOCKOUT. Using a common, nationally recognized language helps reduce confusion and ensures everyone understands what actions to take during an emergency.

Watch the short video below to learn more about the five Standard Response Protocol actions and what they mean for students, staff and families.

It is more than a meal

ALL families are encouraged to submit the Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit (CNEEB) Application to see if their child qualifies for free meals and other benefits. This form helps schools get extra funding to support students. It takes about 5 minutes to complete, and submitting it early ensures your student can access additional services throughout the school year.

Please complete and return the form by October 1.

The form is simple, confidential, and available to all students, regardless of immigration status. Applying helps your child and supports educational programs and services in our schools:

1. Increased funding to support student education
2. Additional funding for technology and discounts for internet and some utilities
3. Discounts for fees associated with college application process
4. Discounted fees for sports, SAT, ACT & AP tests along with scholarship opportunities
5. Free healthy, nutritious student meals

If you have a student in grades 6-12, an annual consent form is required to qualify for eligibility benefits related to athletics and ASB programs.

Submit any time your financial situation changes during the year. Take advantage of these benefits today!

Schools serving up free school meals this year

If your student attends one of the qualifying schools listed below, they will receive free breakfast and lunch at school this year, regardless of whether they individually qualify for free meal benefits. This is made possible through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a federal program that allows schools in eligible areas to provide free meals to all students.

Qualifying schools:

  • Elementary schools: Emerson, Garfield, Hawthorne, Jackson, Jefferson, Lowell, Madison, Monroe, Penny Creek, Silver Lake, View Ridge, Whittier, Woodside

  • Middle schools: Eisenhower, Evergreen, North

  • High schools: Cascade, Everett, Sequoia

Complete the Annual Information Update Form

As the new school year gets underway, families are asked to review and update student information in ParentVUE.

Families can log in to ParentVUE, click "Online Registration," and select the "Annual Information Update Form." The process takes just a few minutes and helps ensure the school has current contact, health, emergency, and guardian information.

Keeping this information up to date helps us stay connected and support students throughout the school year.

Keeping students engaged: A review of Everett Public Schools' cell phone policy

Everett Public Schools remains committed to providing a focused and engaging learning environment. All families are asked to review the district's cell phone policy and procedure, which apply not only to cell phones but also to all personal electronic devices (PED) such as earbuds and smartwatches.

Elementary and middle school students:

  • During the school day: Cell phones/PED will be turned off and stored in backpacks. Students should not use these personal devices during the school day.

  • Communicating with your child during the school day: If a student needs to contact a parent/guardian, they can do so through the school office. Likewise, parents/guardians can call the office for any urgent messages.

  • Disciplinary action: If a cell phone/PED is seen or used during the day, school staff will hold it and return it to the student at the end of the school day. Repeated violations may lead to further consequences.

High school students:

  • During class time: Cell phones/PED must be turned off and stored away to keep the focus on learning.

  • Between classes and during lunch: Students can use their cell phones/PED but are encouraged to disconnect and engage with peers.

  • If you or your student needs to communicate with one another during class time urgently: Students can request to use their cell phone in the office for urgent communication with parents/guardians. Parents/guardians should call the school office to communicate with their student on an urgent matter.

  • Disciplinary action: If a cell phone/PED is out or used during class, it will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. Repeated violations may lead to further consequences.

Special accommodations will be made if a PED is part of a student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan, or Individual Health Care Plan (IHP).

School bus routes and schedules

School bus routes for the 2026-27 school year are now available and were sent via ParentSquare on August 19. You can also find your student’s bus stop location, pick-up/drop-off times, and route number by visiting www.everettsd.org/transportation.

Bus safety reminders

  • Students and parents should wait on the curb when waiting for the school bus, not off the curb or in the street.
  • Do not stand in school crosswalks, obey crossing guards if present.
  • Be focused and aware when walking in school parking lots. We encourage walkers to stay off their cell phones while walking, especially during dark mornings where it may make it difficult for drivers to see walkers.
  • Bicyclists must abide by the same laws as drivers, which means they must stop for school buses when applicable.
