Year 7 Grade Indicator Exams Information
The week commencing the 23rd June, all students in years 7-9 will be sitting Grade Indicator Exams. The purpose of these exams is to measure the progress your child has made since the start of their course and the results of these exams will be used to support your child next academic year to ensure they make as much progress as possible.
When do the exams start?
Exams start on Monday 23rd June. Students will have three exams each day and will start school slightly later, have an extended break and finish slightly earlier. Students are expected to be at line up for 8:40 and can still come to school early for free breakfast in the canteen. Please see below the timetable of exams for the week.
On Friday there will be an early finish. Students will have a slightly earlier lunch and will be dismissed at 13:30.
What equipment does my child need?
All students should have a black pen, pencil and ruler. These may be in a clear plastic pencil case. Please ensure your child has a scientific calculator, protractor and compass as these are also required for some exams such as Mathematics and Science. Students are not allowed electronic devices such as mobile phones, earphones or digital watches. If they are found to have them in their possession this will lead to disqualification.
If your child wants to bring a water bottle it must be clear plastic with no label. Students that fail to bring the correct equipment may be disadvantaged as we will not be providing spare equipment to them. This is to ensure students get into the routine of being organised and ready for their public exams next year.
What can I do to support my child at home?
Please encourage your child to revise at home using the materials provided by their teachers. All students will have checklists of what they need to revise, known as PLCs (Personalised Learning Checklists) as well as resources on Go4Schools. There are lots of resources online students can use.
Grade Indicators can cause stress for students, so please encourage them to take rest breaks in between revision sessions and create a schedule of their revision to help make it manageable.
What if my child is ill?
If your child is ill, please follow the usual school procedures and phone the school on 0207 0791 9500.
If you have any queries at all please do not hesitate to contact me lsummers@bishop.towerhamlets.sch.uk or the Head of Year, vgachette@bishop.towerhamlets.sch.uk
We wish your child every success in their Grade Indicator Exams.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs L Summers-O’Brien
