Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
January 12, 2024
Thank you for your flexibility and responsiveness with the early dismissal and delay this week. The custodial staff shared that the waters rose up to the back doors of classrooms in the first grade hallway, but we escaped undamaged. It looks like more weather may come next week, so please stay tuned to BCPS social media pages and we'll echo any announcements.
Another calendar reminder that we are closed on Monday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and have a scheduled early dismissal on Friday of next week, which marks the end of the second marking period.
We received an update on our efforts at composting in the cafeteria. In November we composted 1,525 pounds of food waste, bringing our year total to 5,025 pounds. Way to go Leopards!
In an unfortunate turn of events, the refrigerator in our Faculty Room is leaking water internally and seems to be on its last legs. If anyone in the community is looking to upgrade and has a working refrigerator looking for a new home, or another lead, please let us know!
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb
Calendar Reminders:
1/15 - Schools Closed, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
1/17 - Make-up Picture Day
1/19 - End of MP 2; 1:05 dismissal
Lutherville Hour of Power Continues
Attention 5th Grade Parents!
Last school year, Lutherville Lab hosted a parent workshop to help prepare for the middle school transition, and invited neighboring schools to attend. One piece of feedback was a desire to spread the sessions out so that parents did not have to choose. This year, we are partnering with nearby schools to host a series of information sessions during the spring. We will have more information on each as they approach, but want to get these on your calendars now!
Become a PTA Member - it's not too late!
Did you know that the only piece required to become a PTA member is to pay the $15 membership fee? Your membership allows the PTA to:
- fund school clubs,
- sponsor books and field trips for those needing financial support,
- offer low cost events like Skate Night,
- bring assemblies to school,
- provide Lutherville Lab t-shirts to every student and start member (coming soon!)
- offer financial support to teachers for classroom enrichment
- and so much more.
So if you haven't already, we hope you'll join today by clicking here or sending in the attached form!

Students will have time to shop during their regular library time as well as during evening family shopping hours which will be Tues Jan 30th and Thurs Feb 1st from 5:30-7:30 pm. More details about payment methods and assistance needed to help us run the fair will be included in next week's Lab Report as well as through a flyer coming home.
Holiday Tinsel Letter Scavenger Hunt Winners
Over winter break, we held our first ever holiday scavenger hunt, where 32 families/community members set up a tinsel garland letter where they live, and scavenger hunters took to the neighborhoods to find and unscramble the message. We hoped that this activity helped to honor and celebrate the wonderful neighborhoods that make up our community. Many students submitted responses and uncoded the following message: 'PEACE AND JOY TO ALL LL LEOPARD FAMILIES' and 5 winners were selected to receive a free ice cream coupon, and the chance to participate in an upcoming assembly!
Thanks to all who participated, and CONGRATULATIONS to:
