Violins needed at GVS!
We've had a tremendous amount of students signed up to learn violin and are in need of violins to loan out for the year.
Do you or someone you know have a violin we could use here at the school?
We are also looking for any community members that know how to play violin or cello to play with us on Monday mornings 8:00 - 8:30.
Email Mr. Hoefs at choefs@gvshawks.org if you can help, loan an instrument, or have any questions.

Helping Your Child Become a Word Detective!
When children encounter a word they don't know, they often look at the pictures to guess. While pictures are great for understanding the story, looking at the letters is how children build strong, lifelong reading skills!
Here are two quick, powerful games you can play at home to help your child focus on the print and decode unknown words.
Strategy 1: The "Picture Peek" Game
Instead of letting the picture do the work, make it the prize!
Cover the pictures on the page with a sticky note or your hand before your child reads.
Have your child read the sentence using only the words.
The Reveal: Once they decode the sentence, lift the sticky note to show the picture. Ask: "Did the picture match what you read?"
Strategy 2: Use the "First Sound" Traffic Light
If your child looks at a picture of a gift and reads the word as "present," their brain is thinking about the meaning, but missing the letters! Gently redirect them with these quick prompts:
Stop: Point to the word gift.
Look: Say, "You said 'present.' Let’s look at the very first letter. Does 'present' start with the letter G?"
Listen: Ask, "What sound does G make? Let's stretch the sounds together: /g/-/i/-/f/-/t/.
