Welcome, Jazz Dancers!

Welcome to another exciting dance season at KJ Dance! We are so excited to watch your dancer learn, grow, and shine in our Jazz program this year. Jazz is a fun, energetic style that helps dancers build strong technique while developing confidence, performance quality, and a love for movement.

Jazz I–V

Our Jazz I–V classes are high-energy, technique-based classes designed to develop strength, coordination, flexibility, musicality, and performance quality. Dancers will continue to build a strong jazz foundation while progressing through age-appropriate technique, across-the-floor progressions, combinations, and choreography.

Teen Jazz

Teen Jazz is designed for dancers ready to refine their technique, style, and performance skills. This class emphasizes strong jazz fundamentals while exploring dynamic choreography, turns, leaps, flexibility, musicality, and expressive performance in a fun and encouraging environment.

What should my dancer wear to class each week?

Jazz Attire

Please have your dancer dressed and ready for class in the following attire:

Tan jazz shoes
Any style leotard, dance top, or half-top
Jazz pants, tights, biker shorts, or a unitard
Hair pulled back in a neat ponytail or braids, with all hair secured away from the face

Please note: Jazz shoes are not required for trial classes.

Will my dancer have a recital at the end of the year?

YES! All Jazz dancers will participate in the KJ End-of-Year Concert!

If your dancer is enrolled in one Jazz class each week, they will perform one routine in the concert. This exciting performance is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to showcase everything they have learned throughout the season while building confidence, creating lasting memories, and experiencing the excitement of performing on stage.

Performance schedules and additional concert details will be shared with families as the event approaches. We can't wait to celebrate your dancer's hard work at this special end-of-year event!

What if my dancer wants to take another class each week?

Many of our Jazz dancers choose to add an additional Jazz, Hip Hop, or Combo class to their weekly schedule! Each of these classes pairs wonderfully with Jazz and provides even more opportunities to build technique, confidence, versatility, and performance skills.

Our KJ faculty carefully designs the class schedule so dancers can often attend classes back-to-back, making it convenient for families. If your dancer would like to add another class, simply take a look at the schedule immediately before or after their current Jazz class—many times there is a perfect option available!

If you need help finding the best fit, our office staff is always happy to assist with scheduling.

Concert Bonus: Dancers enrolled in additional classes will perform an additional routine in the KJ End-of-Year Concert, giving them even more opportunities to grow, perform, and shine on stage!

What if my dancer has trouble walking into class the first few weeks of class?

At KJ Dance, we understand that every dancer is unique. While many dancers jump right into class, others may need a little extra time to acclimate to a new environment and feel safe and confident before they truly come alive in class.

Our experienced faculty has worked with dancers of all ages and personalities, and we are committed to making every child feel welcomed, encouraged, and supported each week. It is very common for dancers to need a few classes to adjust, so if your dancer seems a little hesitant at first, we encourage you to give them at least a month. In our 34th year, we've seen countless shy dancers blossom into confident performers, and watching that transformation is one of our greatest joys.

Can we ask a friend to join?

Absolutely! Dance is always more fun with friends, and we'd love for your dancer to invite a buddy to join them!

Friends can always try a class for FREE! They will simply create an account at kjdance.com, add their dancer, and select the Drop-In class they'd like to attend. Our faculty will be notified of the trial and will be ready to welcome them.

If your friend loves class, they can easily enroll online or contact our office for assistance. We can't wait to welcome them to the #THEKJWAY family!

What if my dancer misses a class?

No worries! We would love for your dancer to make up any missed Jazz class in another Jazz class.

To schedule a makeup class, simply log in to your Studio Director account, select "Makeup Class," and choose another Jazz class that works best for your family's schedule.
