Cap & Gown Decoration Guidelines
It is permitted for students to decorate their caps this year. Here are some guidelines and rules that must be followed. If these rules are not followed, you may be asked to switch into a different cap on the day of graduation. Administration reserves the right to prohibit anything that is not considered appropriate for a commencement ceremony. In an effort to protect the dignity of the commencement ceremony students are expected to follow the rules listed below.
Only decorate the top flat portion of your cap. Nothing can be hanging off of the sides. Decorations are to remain flat to the top of your hat.
Please refrain from 3D decorations. These may impede the view of those behind you.
No political or social statements.
No lights or noise makers.
No numbers other than the graduation year.
Nothing obscene, profane, vulgar or lewd.
No symbols, advertisements, initials, abbreviations, words, slogans, patches or pictures that refer to drugs, tobacco, alcohol, weapons, or be of a sexual nature.
Nothing that threatens the safety or welfare of another person or group of people.
The following are ideas of appropriate things to put on your cap:
Thank a parent, grandparent, mentor, teacher or friend.
Recognize the school you will be attending.
The year you will be graduating.
Your future profession.
The branch of the military you will be joining.
Lots and lots of glitter!
Students, we highly suggest you trace your cap onto cardstock and decorate the cardstock. In case you make a mistake you can start over with a new piece of cardstock. We will not furnish new caps if you make a mistake while decorating. After you decorate it, stick it to your cap with double-sided tape or Velcro stickers.
Have fun, be kind, and remember to make good choices!
