PAC Bulldog Dash Fundraiser
WE DID IT, BOYDEN!!!
Our first-ever Bulldog Dash fundraiser has been absolutely AMAZING — and thanks to our incredible students, families, teachers, and community. We officially hit our $20,000 goal — and we did it within the FIRST WEEK of the fundraiser and the best part — we still have two more weeks to go to see just how far we can take it! Your support has blown us away and shows just how strong the Boyden Bulldog spirit truly is!
What is the Bulldog Dash?
We want to remind families that this is an optional fundraiser — participation in fundraising is not required — but every student will take part in the school-wide and classroom incentives. On November 7th, all Boyden students will take part in a Fun Run around the school property--getting kids moving, motivated, and learning about the importance of health and wellness for the mind, body, and soul. Running for a cause builds school spirit and shows students that taking action is fun and impactful! The Bulldog Dash brings our whole community together while supporting student wellbeing.
Rumor has it…
If we hit $25,000, Mr. Dearborn may be slimed in front of theentire school and who knows… maybe if we reach $30,000, there could be another fun surprise! Let’s hear your ideas for what it should be!
The students, teachers, and families are having an absolute blast, and we can barely keep up with all the incentives being earned! Please know that all children will receive their rewards, and classroom incentives will be scheduled by each teacher.
Here is the schedule of Incentives upcoming
- Spirit/Color Day & Silly String Mr. Dearborn is
- Wednesday, October 22. Spirit/Color Day, when Mr. Dearborn will also be silly stringed at each lunch by one lucky, randomly selected student from each class as one of our big school-wide rewards! Here are the colors of each grade:
K- yellow
1- green
2- purple
3- pink/red
4- blue
5- orange
- Mad Science “Fire & Ice” Show – Tuesday, October 28!
- The PAC is thrilled to bring the Mad Science Fire & Ice assembly to Boyden students for an exciting, educational, and unforgettable science experience.
- Inflatable Recess Coming Soon!
- An Inflatable Recess is being organized as another awesome school-wide celebration — we’ll share the date as soon as it’s confirmed!
Save the Date: The Bulldog Dash!
The Bulldog Dash will take place on Friday, November 7. Each grade will run a fun course around the outside of school during a designated time period (about 20 minutes). Families are encouraged to come cheer their students on — there are no official volunteer jobs for this event, just come show your support and help make it an amazing day for our students!
We’re so proud of our Boyden community — let’s keep the momentum going and see how high we can climb! The energy around Boyden is electric — let’s keep dashing toward the finish line!
Conferences
This year parent-teacher conferences will be held on
- Wednesday, November 12th (5:00 - 7:00 PM)
- Friday, November 14th (12:45 - 2:45 PM)
- Tuesday, November 18th (5:00 - 7:00 PM)
Please note that the Wednesday, November 12th conference date was changed due to a home Patriots game on November 13th. We understand this now overlaps with the WMS conferences; however, two additional conference days are available for families. If this presents a conflict, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If you are a parent with more than one child at Boyden, please allow for at least 10 minutes between your conferences. We have found that back-to-back conferences do not allow for travel from classroom to classroom.
If you have a Grade 4 or Grade 5 student please sign up with their CLASSROOM TEACHER ONLY.
Please locate the teachers name, click on the link on the right and sign up for the day/time you would like. All our classroom teachers and specialists are listed.
What are the Students Learning in PE?
K: Kindergarten classes are starting to settle in nicely during the first few months of PE! Classes are working on a variety of locomotor and non locomotor skills such as; balance, levels, throwing and catching. We have started to use different types of equipment to help learn these important skills all while having fun!
1st: First grade classes have been busy revisiting both locomotor and non locomotor skills
during PE class. Our classes have used different pieces of equipment like beanbags, rings,
hoops and balls to help reinforce these skills.
2nd: Second grade PE classes have started working on the skill of throwing during their PE
classes. We have played several games as well as taking the time to break down proper
throwing techniques! We have also discussed nutrition and MyPlate during this month.
3rd: Third graders started their first year of playing a fun game of Quidditch. This game
incorporates many skills from basketball, baseball and handball. Classes are also working on
the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship during the games. My third graders have also
worked on developing their MyPlate during their nutrition lessons.
4th: My fourth graders started playing the game of Quidditch. Students are really working hard
on the techniques of passing and finding open space while playing the game. Fourth graders
worked on nutrition also during the month of October.
5th: Fifth grade have also worked on Quidditch during this month. Fifth grader students have
done an amazing job picking up the game throughout the years! Students have done a fantastic
job integrating the skills of throwing, catching, blocking and defending during the games. Fifth
graders have learned about MyPlate and how the foods we eat contribute to our overall health.
Black and Orange Day
Friday, October 31st, will be Black and Orange Day at Boyden. Students and staff are encouraged to wear black and orange to school on Tuesday. We ask that students do not wear or bring Halloween costumes to school. Thank you!
Math News from Mrs. Rinaldi
In our fast-paced world filled with standards and expectations, goals and grades, one essential part of learning, no matter what subject or age of student, often gets overlooked-the power of play. Brandon Smith, the head mathematician for Mind Education and ST Math puts it best , “None of this is wasted time. It’s the brain at work, wiring itself for problem-solving, social understanding, and persistence. Play is the most natural laboratory the brain has. It sparks curiosity, lowers fear, and keeps learners engaged long enough to wrestle with big ideas.” (Read the full article, “When Math Begins with Play, Everything Changes”)
Fortunately, play is embedded in our math curriculum in Walpole. Through ST Math, Work Places in Bridges, Number Corner activities and the wide variety of math games our teachers use, students are actively learning math while having fun.
Families often ask educators what they can do to support their child’s learning at home. After a long day of school, some homework and probably an activity or sport one of the best things you can encourage after school is simple: play! Board games, card games, and even some computer games (though we do encourage more socially interactive games) will have your child engaging in a fun activity while boosting their pathways for flexible thinking, problem solving and number sense! Our Family Math site includes a whole section on games that can support your child’s growth as a mathematician. The next time you are wondering what might help your child the most, remember the wise words of Mr. Rogers…
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning.
But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” - Mr. Rogers
