The Accelerated Reader program is up and running again this year for 1st - 5th grade students. All students have taken a STAR test to determine their reading levels. Each student will have an individualized goal based on their grade level and reading level for each of the three AR events that will take place throughout the year. Students must achieve their points goals with 85% comprehension accuracy to qualify for each event. Renaissance Home Connect Letters were sent home on August 21 for students in 1st - 5th grade with directions for parents who would like to keep up with their children's AR progress. Look for more details about our first event in the near future. Kindergarten students who master their sight word lists qualify to become AR readers in the second semester.

Students are also working towards the Million Word Reader Challenge this year that is being sponsored at the district level. Students who read one million words with 85% accuracy (as documented through AR tests) will receive a yard sign, tshirt, and certificate from the district. The top five readers at the district level will also win Kindle Fire Tablets. I can't wait to find out who will become our first Million Word Reader!

PBIS News PBIS News

Welcome Back!! During the first week of school, our students rotated around the school to review our Meaux expectations and rules for each area. This rotation will be completed after each major holiday. It is a great way for students to practice what is expected of them throughout the year. The students are to be commended for their behavior since the start of school. Thank yo u to all of our teachers and parents/guardians for supporting our PBIS model!

Our first PBIS event will be our “Fall Kickoff” on Thursday, September 12. The students will be able to wear their favorite team shirt, jersey or their spirit shirt with uniform bottoms for 2 Pat Cash.

Our first nine weeks event will be celebrated in October with our “Fall Fest”. This has been a student favorite, but we will need volunteers from each grade level to make one or two game booths and run them for the day. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to let them know if you would be interested.

In order to attend the “Fall Fest”, students can not receive a major infraction for the first nine weeks of school. Please continue to encourage your child/children to follow the expectations at school. Our school is successful because of your support!

To be a Beta member students had to have an overall GPA of 3.2 in fourth grade and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher in fifth grade to continue membership. Invitations have been sent home to those outstanding students who qualified for membership.

National Beta was founded in 1934 by Dr. John W. Harris in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He founded the organization on the pillars of achievement, character, leadership and service.

We look forward to working with our new beta members this school year.

When people think 4-H, they usually think of animals. While showing animals is a popular project in our parish. 4-H offers a variety of opportunities for boys and girls to be involved and learn about the world around them while learning to be a responsible citizen. Our first club meeting will be held on September 10th. All interested 4th & 5th grade students are invited to attend this meeting and learn more on all the things 4-H has to offer. We look forward to another fun filled year.

MEAUX MODEL STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Our Meaux Model Student of the Month recognition begins in September! Once again this year, students from each homeroom will be named and recognized as the Meaux Model Student representing their class. This is one way that our PBIS model recognizes and rewards students who consistently display our PBIS school-wide expectations. The Meaux Model Student's duties include welcoming new students to the classroom, assisting with PBIS events as needed, as well as any other privileges as determined by their classroom teacher and administration. This year we are bringing back our Meaux Model Parent Lunch day. This month's Parent Lunch day with your model student will be held on Thursday, September 26th. Students named for September were celebrated on Friday, August 30 at a school wide assembly and letters and certificates were sent home with them. A group picture will be posted to the website!
