Fall Parties

Thursday, October 31st

2:00-2:50 p.m.

Students may wear school appropriate costumes to school on Fall Party day. Costumes may not include anything that looks like or could be used as a weapon, fake blood, or be scary. Costumes should also be able to be worn all day without being a distraction to students.

Masks may only be worn during the parade.

Along with the costumes, all students will need a Tier 2 word that goes with or describes their costume. Tier 2 words are words that are not used in everyday language.

As part of the vocabulary costume parade, all students

will have a sign with a Tier 2 word describing or related

to their costume. Their sign will include their word, part

of speech, and definition.

For example a princess could be monarch, noble,

whimsicle, royal, etc. A baseball player could be athletic,

professional, talented, etc.

When planning what costume your child will wear, please

also start brainstorming what their word could be. Closer

to the parade, a form will go home that you can fill out

including the costume and your child’s word.

PTA HIGHLIGHTS: Fun, Appreciation, and Spirit!

We're just a month in, and plenty of fun is already happening! Here's what we're celebrating so far:

  • Falcon Friday: It was amazing to see the whole school enjoying a beautiful morning outside! Lots of coffee was sipped, and I heard so many sweet comments from all ages. Big thanks to our volunteers and staff for making it happen!
  • Teacher Appreciation: We're all about supporting our teachers! Every Fairview teacher received a $150 Amazon gift card during their first week back, and they shared their heartfelt thanks.
  • Falcon Spirit: Get that Fairview sportswear to show some. The gold tie-dye shirts are a hit! We've already placed another order, so grab one when you can!

JOIN PTA

The purpose of the PTA is to support teachers, help shape the Fairview community, and make sure that every child is supported. Just by joining as a member, you're helping further this goal!

Beginning in early/mid October, we will resume our Response to Intervention (RTI) time at Fairview! With our round of Fall assessments wrapping up, we have crunched the data to determine how we will assist students who have a need for further academic assistance or need academic extension/enrichment. Every year, we see a great deal of growth and improvement from our RTI model and we are excited to bring it back again this year.

  • 1st and 2nd grade RTI is 9:05-9:28, Monday-Thursday.
  • Kindergarten RTI will be 1:45-2:15, Monday-Thursday (starting in late November).
  • 3rd-5th grade RTI is 2:40-3:05, Monday-Thursday.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

In the Fall and Winter of each year, we invite families in for Parent/Teacher conferences. During that time, you'll hear from your child's teacher about how they are progressing in class. Most of our Fall conferences will take place on the week of November 11th:

  • On November 12th, we will prioritize families who require English interpretive services. Other conferences may still be scheduled on this date.
  • On November 14th, we will prioritize families who have multiple children attending Fairview. Other conferences may still be scheduled on this date.

Immediately following the Fever Festival, be on the lookout for an email from us soliciting your availability for conferences. You can request an early conference (between 4-6PM) or a late conference (between 6-8PM). We will even offer Zoom options, as well.

Thanks in advance!

Monthly Update from Specials Teachers

From The Gym

Hello Fairview Families!

We’ve finished our station work and have moved on to Physical Fitness Measurements for 3-5 and organized games with K-2. Fitness measurements include Height, Sit and Reach, Trunk Lift, Push-ups, Curl-ups, the PACER and the Mile. K-2 is learning and reviewing the game Make it Take it.

Please check their A,B,C,D schedule and get those tennis shoes on. If they don’t have them they may not get to participate in all of the day’s activities. There have been some situations where kids have had to sit out. Honestly, this has been the most challenging start as far as kids remembering tennis shoes. Please help them be successful. It’s a real bummer if you child has to sit and watch because they forgot tennis shoes.

Finally, if you’ve been in the gym lately you might have noticed the pictures on the bulletin boards. They are of our kiddos in action!! If you wish, send me a photo of your child doing something active and I’ll get it up on the board. You’re welcome to send in a hard copy pic or email me one and I’ll get it up! Thank you to those of you who have sent in pics!

As always, thank you for your continued support. Hope to see you at the Fever Fest! New addition—hayride!!!

Sincerely,

Mr. Wright

From the Art Room:

Art update:

There has been a lot of creating in ART so far this year! Every class has already had art 6 times and students are getting the routines down. So far, every class has decorated their sketchbook cover, created a monochromatic self-portrait, and participated in International Dot Day by creating a dotwork that’s on display near their classroom. Most recently students have learned about Non-Objective art where they are using lines, shapes and colors to create a work with no recognizable objects. Please reach out with any questions lrobb@cpsk12.org

From the Media Center

The Media Center has been busy in September. Students are learning about library organization and being a safe, respectful, and responsible learner in the library setting. They are also learning about amazing new and not-so-new books to checkout, including award nominees for the Missouri awards. Using Math skills, older students have estimated how many books will be checked out from the library this school year. So far, we are over 3500. How many do you think will checkout? A StoryWalk of The Good Egg has been set up in a loop along the sidewalks on the north side of the school. Teachers are invited to bring their classes to read the interactive story, and families are invited to come outside of school hours to participate together. We are holding a fun and optional contest in October: Decorate a tissue box to represent a favorite book or book character. Details are in this newsletter and a flyer will be sent home with your student!

Technology Specials

Technology

We have been busy in the computer lab the last several weeks. Along with working on our keyboarding skills, we have had many discussions on digital citizenship, online safety, and ways to be responsible when using electronic devices. Younger grades have discussed the basics of using the iPad and how to care for it. We have downloaded and logged into the apps that we will be using for learning this year. We are looking forward to the year ahead.

Thank you

Mrs. Kemble

From the Music Room

Music-

We have had a great start to the year in the music room! Students in all grade levels have been singing and moving every time they come to music. Grades 1-5 have spent a lot of time playing xylophones while kindergarteners have been learning the basics of our non-pitched percussion instruments. Most grade levels have also been celebrating Hispanic Heritage month through listening and dancing activities. A favorite dance among students has been Los Machetes, a dance from Mexico that is traditionally danced with machetes! Don’t worry! We’ve been using rhythm sticks

Counselor News:

This month in counseling classes, students will be learning some important personal/social skills!

Kindergarten & 1st: How to be a friend, identifying feelings in ourselves and others

2nd grade: Identifying feelings, coping strategies for big emotions

3rd-5th grade: Personal safety

Since we are talking about feelings here at school, here is a resource from Big Life Journal for you to use at home to help your kiddos express their feelings:

Thanks!

Happy Fall
