SALISBURY COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Friday, October 9th
Hello and happy Friday!
It was another great week at SCS. Field trips, the Early Release Day juggle, beautiful fall days and great learning opportunities in every room. Thanks for reading the updates below.
Please remember, when your child's go home plans change, or if there is a change in the school schedule (like Early Release Days), contact the school with a note and an email to make sure we know the plan. All dismissal plans must go through the office and we will communicate them to the teachers and bus drivers.
Thanks for your support and partnership in this important work. Have a wonderful weekend,
Tracey
This Week's Photos
Mr. Bernhardt had his last day as our PE teacher on Thursday. We will miss him, but are glad he'll be around in different subbing roles whenever possible. Thank you for being a great PE teacher, Mr. B!
Fifth graders earned a class-wide celebration and had Pajama Day and a movie last Friday. What a cozy bunch!
Kindergarteners and Fifth graders are "Buddies" and enjoy spending time together at recess and one morning a week in the Kindergarten classroom.
First graders are readers! They're reading books with open and closed syllable words, based on their phonics lessons from the week. Way to go, First Graders!
The third graders had lots of fun with leaf art this week in Art class. We welcomed Ms. Flinn to SCS after being out for the first part of the year. We are looking forward to learning from her and are super grateful to Ms. Gombosi for filling in until she could start.
Fourth graders had a chilly but fun field trip to the Dead Creek Wildlife Refuge in Addison this week. They explored the area, watched the birds and even watched as one was banded for further science research.
Classroom News
The district is working on finding a new way for us to link teacher newsletters to the weekly update. Due to the restrictions on sharing Google Docs and PDFs in Google Drive, we need to find a new way to share classroom news. Thanks for your patience!
Student Council Starts Wednesday October 14th
The Salisbury Community School Student Council is designed to empower young leaders and ensure students are an engaged part of their school community. The Student Council will serve as a bridge between the student body and the faculty, ensuring that even the youngest voices are heard.
We will meet with all returning student council representatives on Wednesday morning at 8:15AM, and then hold an election for new members in the coming week. We will be welcoming two 2nd graders onto the council and one K and one 1st grade representative from 4th or 5th grade.
Enrollment for Session 2 of the Learning Lab is open!
Three new options starting the week of October 19th. Use the QR code or follow THIS LINK.
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences
Teachers are currently setting up fall parent-teacher conferences. The window for these is October 5th - November 6th. Please reach out to your child's teacher with questions.

A New Chapter for Our SEPAC, and an Invitation to Help Write It
The Addison Central Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is at an exciting crossroads. We're stepping back to ask big questions: What should a parent advisory council look like for today's families? How can we best support one another, partner with the district, and make sure every student with an IEP or 504 plan has what they need to thrive?
We don't want to answer those questions alone. We want to answer them with you.
Join us for a community conversation where families will help set SEPAC's direction, priorities, and way of working.
The SEPAC is also welcoming new leaders! Whether you're drawn to organizing events, connecting families, sharing information, or speaking up on important issues, there's a role that fits your strengths and schedule. Leadership can be shared, flexible, and as big or small as you make it.
When: Wednesday, 10/14, 5:30-7pm
Where: MUHS library & Google Meet (meet.google.com/gjk-ymhg-drj)
