Steele Wellness Ambassadors participated in the NISD Wellness Ambassadors Summit this past week. Wellness Ambassadors are students at all four NISD high schools who advocate for student needs and help guide peers, and today they came together for their annual Wellness Ambassador Summit!
These students help bring teen mental health to the forefront, and they do so in some creative ways. Today they learned how the game BeanBoozled can encourage discussions about the dangers of drugs and the importance of choosing a drug-free lifestyle.

ASVAB Testing
The ASVAB, or Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is a multiple-aptitude test that measures a person's skills and abilities for future academic and occupational success, particularly in the military. It is used to determine eligibility for enlistment and to match individuals with military career fields. The test has multiple subtests, which are used to calculate a score for general enlistment qualification (the AFQT) and other scores for specific job matches. Click HERE to learn more about taking the ASVAB.
The ASVAB is different from both the ACT and the SAT. The ACT and SAT measure achievement and are primarily used for college applications. The ASVAB measures aptitude and acquired skills which can be used to help predict future academic and occupational success. ASVAB scores thus give students insight into their options and aid them in planning their next step after high school.
Registration deadline is Monday, November 10th

Red Ribbon Week - October 27 thru October 31
Early Voting Begins October 20
Early voting begins Monday, October 20, and lasts through October 31! Northwest ISD’s operations funding election will be on the ballot listed as Proposition A. Voter approval of the measure would decrease class sizes in exchange for a 3-cent increase to the tax rate. Because of continued tax rate compression, voter approval of the measure would still result in a tax rate decrease from 2024. For more information or to see polling locations, visit www.nisdtx.org/election.

Reflections Program - Steele PTSA
The PTA Texas Reflections program is part of the National PTA's long-standing arts program that encourages students of all ages and abilities to create original works of art based on an annual theme, fostering their artistic talent and self-confidence. Students can participate in categories like Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Entries are judged at local levels, with winners having the opportunity to advance through district, state, and national levels for awards and recognition. Click HERE for the PTA Reflections Form.
The theme this year is "I Belong!" Students need to submit their project before Friday, October 31. Students can submit their project and PTA Reflections Form to Mrs. Williams in Room 311-B. If you have any questions about the PTA Reflections program, contact our Steele PTSA at jmsteeleptsa@gmail.com. See attachment below for the PTA Reflections Form.
Proposition A - Operations Funding
In-person meetings are scheduled to take place throughout the district in September and October, with an online Facebook Live taking place October 16. A full list of presentations can be seen at www.nisdtx.org/election, with additional town halls being added as they are scheduled.
Early voting will take place October 20 to 31, and Election Day takes place Tuesday, November 4. If approved by voters, the election is projected to generate at least $12 million in new revenue for Northwest ISD. Of that projection, $8 million would go toward lower class sizes and student programs, and $4 million would go toward raises for teachers and support staff.
