District Monthly Newsletter ~ September 2025
Greetings from the Williamson Central School District!
Dear WCS Community of Students, Families, Faculty, Staff and Williamson Residents:
A GREAT Start to the 2025-26 School Year!
It has been truly exciting to launch the 2025–26 school year and see our hallways filled with smiling faces, active teaching and learning, and sparkling clean classrooms and corridors. The Williamson Central School District is Marauder Proud of our faculty, staff, and students for making the opening days of school such a success. Your energy, dedication, and teamwork have set the stage for a year full of learning, growth, and student outcomes.
"Off and Away All Day" at WCS
We are especially grateful to our families for partnering with us on the implementation of the new “Off and Away All Day” approach to cell phone use, in alignment with the new statewide regulation effective this fall across New York State.
As a byproduct of the cell phone ban, we have received a number of inquiries from the high school regarding student and staff access to specific online platforms during the school day. As a public school district, our technology practices are governed by New York State Education Law 121, Part 2-d, which sets strict requirements for student data privacy, security, and vendor compliance. These regulations—and our own user agreements—exist to protect students’ personally identifiable information, ensure instructional integrity, and maintain compliance with state and federal law.
Because of these obligations, the district cannot simply “open the floodgates” to any requested platform without careful vetting and documentation. Makayla Smolinski, District Technology Coordinator, and Karen Hoody, Coordinator of Instruction, Innovation, and Intervention, are actively exploring all inquiries and requests to ensure that any platform made available aligns with legal and instructional expectations.
To better support student understanding around Ed Law 121 Part 2B, a scheduled informational session with high school students will be held during Forum on September 25, 2025, where these issues and processes were discussed. Reminder: More information about “Off and Away All Day” implementation at WCS may be found on the WCS website under District > Off & Away All Day.
2025 Capital Improvement Project at WCS
2025 Capital Improvement Project Proposal: Asset Preservation (Prop 1) and HS Athletic Fields (Prop 2)
Proposed 2025 Capital Improvement Project (CIP): Preserving Our Assets for a Bright Future
As has been shared and discussed during Regular Meetings of the Board of Education for six + months, the Williamson Central School District is planning a 2025 Capital Improvement Project (CIP) focused on preserving and enhancing our school facilities. We are simply in a position when/where we must attend to the asset preservation of our buildings. This CIP initiative addresses aging infrastructure and ongoing maintenance needs identified in our 2022 Building Condition Survey, ensuring safe, secure, and efficient learning environments for all students. .
It is anticipated that this project will be presented to the community for a public referendum vote on December 10, 2025. Planning has been a collaborative effort, involving our architects, facilities director, and school user groups to ensure we prioritize the most critical upgrades.
The 2025 Capital Improvement Project proposal includes two propositions for community consideration:
CIP Proposition 1: Asset Preservation
This proposition focuses on essential infrastructure across all three schools, including:
- Roof replacements
- Upgrades to mechanical systems (heating, plumbing, and domestic water)
- Fire alarm and safety system enhancements
Accessibility improvements and building envelope repairs
The goal is to maintain the core integrity of our school buildings and protect the community’s investment in our schools.
CIP Proposition 2: Athletic Field Improvements
(contingent upon approval of Proposition 1)
This proposition addresses upgrades to high school athletic fields, specifically the baseball and softball facilities. The scope of work in Proposition 2 may proceed ONLY if Proposition 1 is approved.
CIP Proposition 1: Base Scope at ES
CIP Proposition 1: Base Scope at MS
CIP Proposition 1: Base Scope at HS
Proposition 2: HS Athletic Fields (see bottom of slide)
For More Information on the Proposed 2025 Capital Improvement Project
CIP Financial Stewardship
The District is committed to responsible financial planning and ensuring this project is tax neutral. This means that if voters approve one or both propositions, there will be no future tax impact for this project on the local tax levy. We plan to achieve this by maximizing available state aid, with the current SED Building Aid Ratio estimated at 84% and by using Capital Reserves established for this very purpose.
We remain committed to transparency and community engagement and will continue sharing updates as planning progresses. Thank you for supporting our efforts to preserve and improve Williamson Central School District facilities for current and future generations.
CIP Information Available to You
For those interested in learning more about the Proposed 2025 Capital Improvement Project, including detailed presentations and financial information, the district has created a dedicated webpage on the WCS website (Path: williamsoncentral.org, District, 2025 Capital Project PreReferendum). Here, you may access architect (SEI) presentations, financial reports prepared by BpD - Financial Advisors to the district, and Superintendent updates delivered during Board of Education meetings, including the July 2, 2025 and September 17, 2025 presentations.
CIP Timeline
- September: Final Scope of Work presentation to the Board
October: CIP Presentation, Board resolutions for SEQRA and voter referendum language
November: CIP Presentation to BOE and district mailings to voters
December 3, 2025: Capital Improvement Project Public Hearing
December 10, 2025: Proposed referendum vote
We encourage community members to review these materials to stay informed about the scope, planning, and financial stewardship of this project as we work to maintain safe, secure, and efficient school buildings.
Strategic Planning and Essential Objectives at WCS
Strategic Planning at WCS
Essential Objectives: Acknowledging Our Community
Our current strategic planning approach reflects the efforts of many contributors: community members and staff who participated in entry plan meetings last year, faculty and staff who joined a series of spring 2025 sessions, the administrative cabinet, and the Board of Education, whose guidance, direction, and vision helped identify our district priorities/essential objectives.
2025-26 Strategic Planning: Essential Objectives
Strategic planning helps WCS align resources, personnel, and daily operations with a shared vision for student success. It’s not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about getting even better.
Strategic Planning is built around four essential objectives, developed through data analysis and broad stakeholder input:
Student Achievement: Strategies in literacy, math, MTSS, career/technical education, and grading practices to raise proficiency and mastery.
Culture of Caring: Creating environments where all students and staff feel respected, valued, and supported.
Community Connections: Building authentic partnerships with families and local organizations.
Fiscal Responsibility: Ensuring long-term sustainability through thoughtful financial and facilities planning.
Essential Objectives: Turning Strategy into Action
Building Planning Teams (BPTs): Each school’s BPT, led by the principal, develops measurable action plans aligned with the objectives, which are shared with the Board of Education for transparency and accountability.
Council Commitments: District leaders focus on fostering a Culture of Caring through respect, relationships, and collaboration, increasing visibility in schools, collecting feedback, and planning professional development.
Individual Administrator Goals: All administrators set professional goals connected to one of the four objectives, ensuring that every role contributes to district priorities—from instructional leaders boosting student achievement and community connections to business officials ensuring fiscal responsibility.
Through this coordinated approach, WCS connects high-level strategy to classroom practice, providing every student with the support and opportunities they need to achieve a bright future.
Noteworthy News About Athletics Programming
Updated High School Athletic Eligibility Guidelines (Grades 9–12)
The Williamson Central School District has revised its athletic eligibility policy to support students’ academic success, safety, and fairness. Here’s what students and families need to know:
Eligibility Checks
1. Five-Week (Interim) Review:
If a student athlete is failing two or more courses, they are ineligible to participate in games or contests.
Students may continue practicing with their team.
To regain eligibility:
Improve grades so that no more than one course is failing.
Complete a Run-Around Sheet, verified by teachers and signed off by the Athletic Director or building administrator.
Once approved, the Athletic Director will notify the student’s family and coach, and the student may resume play immediately.
2. Ten-Week (Quarter) Review:
If a student athlete is failing two or more courses, they are ineligible for games/contests for FIVE consecutive school days.
Students may continue practicing during this period.
After the five-day ineligibility period, the student may complete the Run-Around Sheet:
Teachers verify improved grades (passing 65 or higher in any previously failing courses).
The Athletic Director or building administrator signs off.
The Athletic Director notifies the family and coach, and the student may resume play.
Special Circumstances:
Unique situations (school productions, prom, or once-in-a-lifetime opportunities) can be reviewed by an Eligibility Appeal Board if the student demonstrates substantial academic effort.
These updates will be included in the updated Extracurricular and Athletics Handbook, coming soon.
Special Thanks: A huge thank you to Athletic Director Bryon Rockow for his leadership and support in updating these guidelines to ensure they are fair, clear, and supportive of all students’ success.
Athletic Transportation Limitations
The Williamson Central School District understands and regrets the limited access to multiple buses for athletic competitions when both JV and Varsity teams are competing out of district.
Regrettably, there is a finite number of drivers available to support these “extra runs.” We are working to maximize transportation resources to maintain daily operations—including regular school routes and out-of-district placements—while striving to minimize disruptions to athletic programming.
If you know anyone who is interested and willing to drive a bus, please refer them to our Employment Opportunities webpage. Additional drivers help us provide safe, reliable transportation for all students and support the continuity of our athletic programs.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of WCS athletics.
WCS Grading Articulation
Special shout out to Karen Hoody for her work on a new WCS Grading Articulation Document, designed to provide families with greater clarity around how grades are calculated and to give teachers clearer guidance on district grading expectations. Many thanks to the Grading Committee for their contributions in supporting the development of this articulation for the 2025-26 school year.

At the Middle School... News and Notes from Ms. Taylor
Greetings from Williamson Middle School
The 2025–2026 school year is off to an incredible start at Williamson Middle School! Our hallways and classrooms are once again filled with the energy and excitement of learning, and we are so proud of how smoothly our students and staff have transitioned back into school. Once again, we are thrilled to welcome our incoming 5th grade class! The class of 2033 is poised to accomplish great things!
During the first weeks, our focus has been on building relationships, establishing routines, and creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students. Teachers have engaged students with creative icebreakers, team-building activities, and community-building circles that set the tone for learning and respect. During this upcoming week, our 7th and 8th grade teams are participating in team building activities with their teachers. Our staff is committed to creating a caring and collaborative learning environment for all of our students.
We are also celebrating school spirit this week in preparation for Homecoming! Our students are participating in school spirit days which include “Beach Day, “ and “Pajama Day”. The Middle School is embracing all aspects of the school experience!
The positive energy from parents and guardians has been equally inspiring. Thank you for partnering with us to make this transition back to school such a success. Together, we are creating an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
One highlight of these opening weeks has been the smooth and successful implementation of the new cell phone ban. Our students have demonstrated responsibility and resilience by fully engaging in their learning without the distraction of devices. The result has been a noticeable increase in focus, classroom participation, and meaningful peer-to-peer interactions. There have been no significant disciplinary issues as a result of the ban, and our students do not appear to miss their devices during the instructional part of the day.
We are equally proud of the wide range of extracurricular opportunities available to our students this year. Whether through athletics, clubs, music, theater, or service organizations, students are discovering new passions, building friendships, and developing important leadership skills. Please encourage your child to get involved and involved in an activity.
At the heart of all we do remains our unwavering commitment to academic excellence. Teachers are challenging students with rigorous, engaging lessons designed to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. We continue to analyze students’ progress through our data points and tailor our instruction to our students' needs.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at (315) 589-9665.

Hoody Highlights: Family-Friendly Updates on Instruction, Innovation & Intervention
Williamson Central School District is committed to grading practices that are fair, supportive, and reflective of what students know and can do. Over the past two years, Williamson CSD stakeholders have engaged in collaborative conversations about our grading philosophy and articulation to ensure consistency and alignment across grade levels and courses. The primary goal of grading and assessment is to support academic growth while providing accurate, fair feedback that fosters hope and motivation. Numerical grades communicate what students have learned, while comments provide insight into work habits and behaviors. Key highlights of this work include:
Increased transparency & access in Schoology.
All students and parents will receive a Course Overview outlining grading practices and expectations. This document will be available at Open House and will be saved in the materials section of the Schoology course.
Rubrics, grading scales, and expectations will also be in Schoology within the current unit a student is working in.
Regular academic progress will be noted in Schoology.
Grades are posted regularly in Schoology. Grades will reflect progress over time and be represented by multiple assignments/assessments.
Two key gradebook codes to note:
EX = Excused (no need to make up)
MI = Missing (must be made up)
Students are encouraged to make up missing work during study halls,10th period, lunch, or other set times.
Teachers will help students struggling with independent and/or unfinished work.
Support for Life Events: Big life events may lead to course adjustments. If major life events occur, parents/guardians and/or students should reach out to their teacher, counselor or other trusted adult to discuss options through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
Interim and Report Card grades will be noted in Schooltool.
Every 5 weeks: Students and Parents/Guardians will receive an Interim Report noting your student's current grade in the course.
Every 10 weeks: Students and Parents/Guardians will receive a Report Card noting your student's marking period grade in the course. Teachers will also be including comments regarding work habits.
For MP1 and MP2: Teachers use a circle 50 to prevent low marking period score from disproportionately harming a student’s final average while still showing the grade was adjusted. This practice keeps students accountable but also motivated, giving them a fair chance to recover and stay engaged in learning. Teachers will add the real grade in the comments to clarify.
For MP3 and MP4: The circle 50 will be phased out in marking periods 3 and 4 to increase student accountability and independence by ensuring grades more accurately reflect student performance. This will help prepare students for final exams and graduation requirements, where minimum grade protections are not in place.
Understanding MTSS at WCS
MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is how we ensure every student gets the right support at the right time. It’s like a layered approach:
-
Tier 1: High-quality instruction for all students in the classroom.
-
Tier 2: Small group support for students who need extra help.
-
Tier 3: Individualized, intensive support for students with the greatest needs.
At WCS, MTSS is more than a framework — it’s a commitment. We continually review and refine our instruction, interventions, and innovative practices to make sure every learner is supported academically, socially, and emotionally. Our goal is to create an environment where all students can thrive and reach their full potential.

A Message from Nick Weis, WCS Nurse Coordinator
Hello WCSD Community,
I’m excited to be writing this as the district’s new Nurse Coordinator. As we look ahead to the 25-26 school year and all the potential that it holds, my thoughts go to how school nurses can help support the success of our students. Although we are not in classrooms, and you may not hear from us often, school nurses play an important role in the overall function of our buildings and provide a service meant to support our students, families, and staff with one goal in mind: keep our community well enough to participate to the most of their ability at school.
The beginning of the year requires our attention to ensure that students have physical examinations, immunizations, medications, medication orders, care plans, screenings, and more. Please be on the lookout for communication from the health offices regarding these items and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. These annual tasks are the first way in which we can support our student’s health in order to support their learning.
Student safety is also imperative to provide a proper learning environment. As part of our latest effort to enhance safety within the district, our staff have been provided with training regarding how our district manages cardiac emergencies and life-threatening allergies.
Finally, our elementary nurse will be taking part in a county-wide training session October 10th to learn about Youth Mental First Aid and this training will be shared among the nurses in the district so all of us can work with our counselors to provide mental health support to our students. We will continue to diligently look for ways to support our students and look forward to working with parents toward our goal of supporting the WCSD community.

Health Screenings
The district’s School Health Services program supports your student’s academic success by promoting health in the school setting. One way that we provide care for your student is by performing the health screenings as mandated by the State of New York.Throughout the school year mandatory New York State health screenings will be conducted in the health offices for new entrants and students in following grades: UPK, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th. Required screenings are grade specific and may include: vision, hearing, and scoliosis screenings. A letter will be sent home if your student requires follow-up with your healthcare provider. For vision screenings only, parents will be notified of all results. Please call the Health Office if you have questions or concerns.
OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS AND RELEASE OF INFORMATION FORMS
In the spring, you should have received information from your student’s health office containing a new Over the Counter form and a Release of Information form. We recommend completing and returning these forms to your student’s health office as soon as possible.
In order to help students remain in school, we are now keeping certain medications in stock in the health offices (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Tums, etc.). These medications can be given if the Over the Counter form is on file for your child. The form needs to be signed by both a parent/guardian and a healthcare provider.
School Health Office Personnel often have to contact your student’s healthcare provider for physicals, clarification on orders, etc. Most healthcare providers now require a Release of Information form to be on file or they will not be able to send the required information to the health office.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your student’s health office.

Marauder Minute ~ Submitted by Athletic Director, Bryon Rockow
Homecoming 2025 was a tremendous success for Williamson Central School District. The turnout from our community was outstanding, and the support for our student athletes could be felt throughout the entire weekend. From the pre-game festivities to the excitement in the stands, it was clear that Williamson takes pride in celebrating our students both on and off the field. I want to thank all of the families, alumni, staff, and community members who came out to be part of this special tradition. The atmosphere truly highlighted the strong sense of school spirit that makes Williamson a great community.
As the fall season continues, our modified sports programs are officially underway. Modified soccer, volleyball, and cross country have begun their schedules, giving our youngest student athletes opportunities to learn, compete, and grow as teammates. These programs play an important role in developing the foundation of Williamson athletics, and it is exciting to see so many students taking part. Coaches are working hard to build skills and sportsmanship, and our athletes are already showing great effort and improvement. Families are encouraged to attend games and support our modified teams.
Transportation remains a priority as we work to ensure safe and reliable travel for our student athletes. Like many districts, we are experiencing challenges with driver availability and scheduling. This has led to some adjustments in departure times, but our transportation department continues to go above and beyond to meet the needs of our athletic program. I would like to recognize their hard work and flexibility, which allows our students to participate in a wide range of athletic opportunities. We greatly appreciate the patience of families and coaches as we navigate these challenges together.
Another important update is that the district is actively working to secure a certified athletic trainer. The goal is to have a professional available to support our student athletes with injury prevention, treatment, and recovery. This will be a valuable addition to our athletic program and another way we are prioritizing the health and safety of our students.
In addition, we have made changes to our eligibility policy for high school students. The new policy places a stronger emphasis on both academic performance and responsible behavior, ensuring that student athletes are truly representing Williamson in the classroom as well as on the field. Students will now be held to updated standards with regular grade checks and accountability measures. These changes are designed to better support our athletes as students first, while also giving them the structure and encouragement needed to be successful in all areas of school life. We believe this policy will create a healthier balance between academics and athletics and reinforce the values of hard work, responsibility, and commitment.
If you would like to meet with me to discuss athletics or to gain a better understanding of recent changes, please do not hesitate to reach out. I welcome the opportunity to connect with families and community members!
Bryon Rockow
Assistant Principal & Athletic Director
Williamson Central School District
REMINDER: Updated "Play-Up" Process
The district has implemented a new process for moving athletes up a level (e.g., Modified to JV, JV to Varsity):
Coaches must speak with AD before having any conversation with the athlete or their family.
Requests will be reviewed.
If approved, the Varsity coach will contact the family to confirm their support.
If the family agrees, AD will move forward with scheduling APP testing.
NYSPHSAA Spectator Expectations
NYSPHSAA Spectator Expectations
The New York State High School Athletics Association developed and will require that all school districts implement and enforce Sportsmanship Standards, effective Fall 2023.
NYSPHSAA Expectation Statement: Officials, just like student athletes and coaches, are critical to interscholastic sports programs. Without officials, NYSPHSAA and its member schools would not be able to provide interscholastic sports in the manner that is desired and expected by student athletes, coaches, and parents. In addition to abiding by the HCS Code of Conduct, spectators are expected to “Be Loud, Be Proud, and Be Positive.” Negative comments and inappropriate behaviors by spectators are required to be addressed by all and any school supervisors and administrators, as a member of NYSPHSAA in the following non-sequential order depending on the comments or behavior:
First warning – Directing the spectator or group of spectators to refrain from any negative comments or actions.
Second warning – A personal discussion with the spectators or group of spectators on the above NYSPHSAA expectations and reminding the spectators or group of spectators of the next step - removal of the game or event - will be utilized if the behavior continues.
Removal from the contest – The spectator or group of spectators will be directed to leave the facility for the remainder of the game or event.
If spectators or group of spectators refuse to leave the game or event, play will be stopped until they vacate the premise.
Penalty for being removed from a game or event: Any spectator removed from a game or event will have a minimum penalty of completing the NFHS Parent Credential course or a one game suspension before they are allowed to attend any interscholastic event, home or away.
Once the course is completed the spectator will provide a certificate of completion to the athletic department office.
Schools are required to communicate with the offending spectator on the NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Spectator Expectations.
Spectators may be prohibited from attending current and future interscholastic contests based on their behavior. (Oct. 2022)
Depending on the severity of the behavior/comments or future disqualifications by the offending spectator NYSPHSAA and the Section may get directly involved in the situation. (May 2023)

More information is available at: https://hungersolutionsny.org/federal-nutrition-programs/
Forms are available online, in the 2025-26 school calendar, or in your school’s main office.
Only one form is needed per household.
Make America Healthy Again: What It Means for School Meals
Our district is excited to align with the upcoming federal Make Our Children Healthy Again strategies, which will focus on giving students healthier choices at school. These strategies are designed to promote long-term health and support students in building strong eating habits that carry into adulthood. One of the primary areas that will have a significant impact on us is food de-regulation.
Food Deregulation: HHS, FDA, and USDA will take the following actions:
• Remove restrictions on whole milk sales in schools, allowing districts to offer full-fat dairy options
alongside reduced-fat alternatives.
• Eliminate mandatory reduced-fat requirements in federal nutrition programs to allow consumer choice.
• Remove barriers preventing small dairy operations from processing and selling their own milk products locally.
For more information visit: https://www.whitehouse.gov/maha
🌾 Coming Soon: National School Lunch Week and Big Apple Crunch Day!
National School Lunch Week (NSLW) will be celebrated October 13-17th. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
Big Apple Crunch Day will take place on Wednesday, October 22nd.

Transportation Department
News from the Transportation Department ~ Submitted by Vicky Indelicato
And, just like that, we have completed the third week of school. I hope all the students have had a positive experience on their buses. The beginning of the school year can sometimes be challenging. The Transportation office staff receive a lot of last-minute requests to change or update student transportation information. These changes can take a few days. These changes can possibly alter times of the bus routes as well. We would like to thank the Williamson community, school staff, students and parents for being patient.
We also wanted to inform you of the app we launched for BusRight. BusRight is the routing program we use to make the bus routes. With this app you can monitor your child’s bus to see where it is in reference to their bus stop. Over the summer, we posted messages on Parent Square informing parents of the BusRight app. BusRight then sent out the app invitation to parents via email. If you did not receive the invitation, you might need to check that the correct email is listed through SchoolTool and BusRight. We have received a lot of positive feedback about the app. Please consider downloading the app. If you are having difficulty with the app or you did not receive an invitation, you can reach out to our department at transportation@williamsoncentral.org or contact BusRight at support@busright.com. Thank you for your patience while we work through the glitches that can sometimes accompany the download of a new app.
Let’s talk about bus safety…being safe falls on our students and parents. Please remind your children about bus safety…and teach them why it is so important! Some of the most important safety rules are:
Stay seated and out of the aisle
Please, no eating food or drinking on the bus
Use your inside voice
If you have to cross in front of the bus to get home, make sure to walk out 10 feet in front of the bus and you can see your driver’s signal for you to cross.
Please be outside and waiting for your bus, you should be at your bus stop 5 minutes before the bus is expected to arrive for your pickup. The BusRight app can help with your timing for being out for the bus. Just think…if it’s rainy or snowy, or just plain upstate NY cold out…you can stay inside until you see your bus on the app!!
And, please, always listen to your driver.
** If you have any transportation needs or changes, please complete a 2025 - 2026 Transportation Form for your children attending school. This form can be found on the school website. You can use the google form and submit it after completing it or use the paper form, print it off, complete it and send it to us at transportation@williamsoncentral.org. All students require a form to be completed. Thank you! Welcome Back!!

Please watch the below video to learn more about the Safe School Helpline:
Did You Know? Intersection of Code of Conduct, DASA and Sexual Harassment
WCS Code of Conduct:
- Per SED, the Board of Education of every school district within New York State is required to adopt and amend, as appropriate, a Code of Conduct for the maintenance of order on school property, including a school function, which shall govern the conduct of students, teachers and other school personnel as well as visitors and shall provide for the enforcement thereof.
- Any and all student misconduct may be investigated and enforced under the district’s Code of Conduct. Investigation and enforcement of Code of Conduct violations is the responsibility of building level administration, and may be supported by a Dean of Students and/or other support staff.
- The Code of Conduct articulates the range of progressive dispositions for offenses, and the district strives for consistency in its application.
- The DASA legislation is intended to provide students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. Please review the above link for more information on DASA.
- Protected classes in the DASA legislation include: race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender, and sex.
- Behaviors outlined in DASA are also identified as prohibited student conduct within the WCS Code of Conduct. As such, any such misconduct may be investigated and enforced under the district’s Code of Conduct.
- Please report any DASA concerns as outlined below:
- Contact your building level administrator. Administration welcomes and encourages direct and open lines of communication with students and families.
- Tell a trusted adult, such as any member of the mental health staff or a teacher. School personnel are required to notify an administrator in the event of such a report.
- Complete the Incident Reporting Form located on our website. Building principals actively monitor this tool for reports of peer conflict, misconduct, bullying, and/or harassment.
- District appointed DASA Coordinators conduct DASA investigations. The WCS DASA Coordinators include the following staff members:
- Scott Drechsler ESDASA@williamsoncentral.org
- Kathryn Taylor MSDASA@williamsoncentral.org
- Rob Snyder HSDASA@williamsoncentral.org
- Title IX is a federal law which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex and provides, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Please review the above link for more information.
- Behaviors outlined in Title IX are also identified as prohibited student conduct within the WCS Code of Conduct. As such, any such misconduct may be investigated and enforced under the district’s Code of Conduct.
- Please note, however, in the event of a report of sexual harassment, the family of a student victim will be contacted by a district appointed Title IX Coordinator to discuss investigation options, time parameters for a formal Title IX investigation, and other considerations (such as confidentiality) of such an investigation.
- In the event a Title IX complaint is filed, the family of the alleged offender will also be contacted by district appointed Title IX Coordinator to discuss the investigation, time parameters and other considerations.
- The WCS Title IX Coordinators include:
- Rob Snyder, High School Principal
- Kathryn Taylor, Middle School Principal
- Bryon Rockow, Middle School Assistant Principal
- Questions about Title IX information may be directed to the individuals named above or to wcstitleix@williamsoncentral.org.
- Title IX concerns should be reported as previously outlined above (and reinforced here):
- Contact your building level administrator. Building administration welcome and encourage direct and open lines of communication with students and families. As Title IX Investigators, they also are “the lead” in any investigation and/or development of action steps to redress issues.
- Tell a trusted adult, such as any member of the mental health staff or a teacher. School personnel are required to notify an administrator in the event of such a report.
- Follow the Title IX Grievance process outlined on the website.
- Building level administrators are responsible for the disposition of any "founded" Title IX complaint.
Go Guardian Alerts
To support student safety and encourage scholarly behaviors when using devices, the Williamson Central School District incorporated online services provided by GoGuardian a number of years ago. It may be helpful to know that over 10,000 other schools use GoGuardian to protect 5.5 million students across the world, and the Global Educator Institute has endorsed the GoGuardian Teacher product.
How are we using GoGuardian?
- WCS has chosen GoGuardian services to:
- Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material
- Help students stay “scholarly” and more focused when learning online
- Help assess students’ progress towards class assignments
When and how does GoGuardian operate?
- GoGuardian’s web-based services operate on our school’s managed G Suite for Education Chrome accounts (i.e. when a student is logged into Chrome or a Chromebook with his/her school email address).
- GoGuardian Teacher enables teachers to use GoGuardian Teacher with students in their classes only during school hours from Monday through Friday.
What are the school’s responsibilities?
- WCS selected GoGuardian services to help our students stay safer and more scholarly online. We will work with students during class time to help teach them digital responsibility and safety. Additionally, we will train teachers about how to operate GoGuardian and about our policies and procedures to help protect student privacy.
- Parents maintain responsibility to supervise their children’s use of devices.
What are my parental/guardian and child’s responsibilities?
- We ask that students uses their school-managed Google accounts and school-managed devices for educational purposes within the boundaries of the WCS Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement.
- When a student is off campus, parents are responsible for supervising internet access and usage. We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child, and to reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her. We also highly encourage you to report any potential cyberbullying or other sensitive issues to us.
How does GoGuardian help protect my child’s privacy?
- To help your child remain scholarly and safe online, GoGuardian collects certain personally identifiable information about your child.
- GoGuardian has consulted with privacy experts, participates in privacy organizations, is a proud signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, and has been awarded certifications by iKeepSafe for complying with both the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and California student privacy laws. For more detailed information about GoGuardian, you may visit GoGuardian’s website, Trust & Privacy Center, GoGuardian’s Product Privacy Policy, and the attached COPPA Notice and Disclosure Form.
