What's Going On This Month

Activities

At Second Home, we make learning functional and person-centered by giving participants the freedom to choose from a variety of fun and engaging tasks! This approach allows everyone to explore what sparks their interest while aligning with their personal goals. This month, Second Home has been buzzing with activity, as participants have been fully immersed in exciting learning opportunities. Whether it’s customizing tasks, reflecting on their choices, or receiving guidance when needed, we continue to create an environment where learning is both meaningful and enjoyable for all.

Functional Highlight

Bakery

At Second Home, participants recently engaged in work readiness lessons, exploring jobs in a bakery setting. They practiced fulfilling orders and participated in culinary lessons focused on baked goods. Everyone had a great time learning new skills and honing their abilities in a hands-on environment. We’re also thrilled to announce that at the end of the month, we will be partaking in a Cake Wars event, where participants will have the chance to showcase their creativity and skills in a fun and friendly competition!

Hygiene/ Grooming

This month, Second Home's daily living skills focused on hygiene and grooming, allowing participants to practice self-care tasks like handwashing. These hands-on activities aimed to promote independence and confidence in managing everyday responsibilities.

Community-Based Instruction

This month, Second Home participants enjoyed two enriching Community-Based Instruction outings to Target and Stew Leonard's. Both fun outtings to purchase ingredients for the end-of-month Cake Wars event. These experiences offered opportunities for socializing, exploring new locations, and practicing real-world skills like shopping and navigating public spaces.

ERC Charities 3rd Annual Gala

What an evening spent honoring one of our participants and other members in the community making a difference. We’re so grateful to be a beneficiary of the ERC Charities Gala and their ongoing support of the intellectual and developmental disability community.
