CHIPS Space Week

For the past two weeks, the CHIPS hallway has been transformed into outer space! The children have had a wonderful time learning about the solar system and pretending to be astronauts. Thank you to Lauren Nicolosi and the entire CHIPS staff, whose hard work make this school wide theme event possible!

Health News

Oh, allergies! Although it can be difficult to know conjunctivitis from allergies, here are some symptoms that may help distinguish between the two:

Allergic reactions usually happen in both eyes at the same time.

  • itchy/burning feeling
  • watery discharge
  • swelling of the eyelids
  • redness of the eyes
  • may have stringy discharge from the eyes

Yes, it may give you early morning, crusty itchy-pink eyes; however, when diagnosed correctly, it is not contagious, and your child can be in school. Thoroughly wash with warm water, then follow with a cool compress to help relieve minor irritations.

Allergies not only affect the eyes: expect sneezing, itching, asthmatic symptoms, hives, and a dry, scratchy throat. If your child has a history of asthma or you are unsure if they have allergies, please contact your Healthcare Provider for further medical advice. Below are some helpful links on asthma and allergic conjunctivitis.

Please use our absence line (978-251-5188 Option 0) to report your child's absence from school and be sure to state the reason for the absence (illness, appointment, travel, etc). If your child is out due to illness, please let us know the nature of the illness (fever, vomiting, cough, etc.).

Nurse Kristen can be reached by calling the CHIPS main number (978-251-5188) and selecting option 3.
