Weekly News at Reidy Creek Elementary School 8/29/2025
Dear Families,
It was another wonderful week at Reidy Creek! It was great to see so many families during our Back-to-School Night. This event is an important part of the beginning of our school year. It allows parents to hear about school-wide goals and initiatives, new programs, and policy reminders, and then to learn about grade-level curriculum and classroom expectations. If you could not attend, please reach out to your classroom teacher to get any important information that was covered. I also encourage you to watch my short recorded video to hear about our goals for the year, test scores, and new programs that are happening this year. Here is the link to Mrs. Loh's Back to School Video.
This week, our PE classes started, and students were excited to be back with Mr. Vieaux and Mrs. Zook. We also had our first fire drill this afternoon. For this drill, we did not have the alarm, but an announcement was made reminding students what to do, and everyone did an excellent job. Moving forward, we will have two drills a month (fire, earthquake, lockdown/secure campus) throughout the year, so students and staff feel well-prepared in case of an emergency.
We also had a special guest at our Friday assembly. Joanne Olson, from the American Heart Association, came to present Reidy Creek with a check for $2,135! Last year, Mr. Vieaux wrote a grant to purchase new picnic games for PE and recess, such as corn hole, horseshoe, croquet, ladder toss, etc. Students will be able to learn the rules of the games in school and then share what they've learned with family and friends at outdoor picnics and barbecues. It was the perfect way to end the week!
I hope you have a wonderful three-day weekend. We will see you on Tuesday morning!

Attendance
As many of you know, this year we will continue to focus on school attendance. Last year, our average daily attendance was 94%. This year, we are hoping to reach a school-wide goal of 95%. We've already had several absences since the beginning of year, and I want to take this opportunity to stress the importance of coming to school each and every day.
Studies have shown that when children miss school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills. Preliminary data in California found that students who were chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade. This can significantly impact a child's education in their later elementary years, as well as through middle school and high school. We do see an effect on students academic success when they have excessive absences.
While we know some absences can't be avoided, please make every effort to schedule appointments before, after, or during school breaks. If your child is feeling under the weather and you have a question about whether or not they can attend school, please don't hesitate to call our nurse's office. We're happy to help!

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Thank you for all of your support with arrival and dismissal! Our drop-off line has been very smooth as students get more comfortable with the morning routine! We appreciate your help getting your children ready for a quick exit in the morning and staying in your cars while our staff helps students get to the correct location.
A few reminders:
Please remember to pull all the way forward and be cautious about blocking the crosswalk and backing up when in line.
Follow the directions of the staff who are outside. They are there to keep the flow of traffic moving so students can get in and out of the car quickly.
If your child requires a car seat, it is very helpful if the car seat is curbside so children don't have to walk around the car to get in.
Do not get out of your car in either the bus loop or in front of the school. If you need additional time, please pull all the way forward or park.
Keep your limo sign in your car window. It is very challenging to identify cars without the limo sign, and it takes our staff longer to locate your child.
As our dismissal process continues to run more efficiently, please pick up your child by 3 pm. If students are still outside at 3 pm, they will be brought into the office. Please bring a photo ID when picking them up.
We appreciate your support to help arrival and dismissal run smoothly each and every day.
