This Week at Adams Elementary
🎨🦒 Art Masters at Adams! 🦒🎨
Our All-Stars had a wonderful time participating in Art Masters today! Students created their own giraffe artwork using colorful patterns inspired by African culture and design. 🌍✨ It was especially exciting to see our students not only creating beautiful artwork, but also making cultural connections and learning how art can help us explore and appreciate different cultures around the world. A HUGE thank you to our amazing Adams PTA volunteers for being in our classrooms and helping make these Art Masters experiences possible! ❤️ Your support makes a difference! Keep creating, keep learning, and keep shining, All-Stars! ⭐🎨
🌟 ATTENDANCE ALL-STARS! 🌟
A huge congratulations to Ms. Manseau’s Kindergarten Class for having the highest attendance at Adams last week with an incredible 99.09%! 🎉👏 Being at school every day means more opportunities to learn, grow, build friendships, and show your STAR power! ⭐️📚 Way to go, Kindergarten All-Stars! Keep shining bright and showing us what it means to #BeHereToBeGreat! ❤️🖤
🗳️✨ Learning About the Importance of Voting!
Our third graders in Miss Martinez’s class are putting their thinking skills to work! Students used a Multi-Flow Map to explore and discuss why voting is important and the impact that voting can have on our communities. It’s wonderful to see our students sharing thoughtful ideas, making connections, and understanding that their voices matter. 💭🗳️ We love seeing our Adams All-Stars think deeply about how they can make a difference! ⭐
💄✨ The Adams Beauty Bar is OPEN! ✨💅
Yesterday, Mrs. Hoff and Ms. Mulholland treated our All-Stars to a little extra fun at lunchtime by opening the Beauty Bar! 💖 Students were able to purchase this special experience using their Adams Bucks at our most recent Student Store. The best part? These Adams Bucks were earned by following our STAR expectations: Safety First, There and Ready, Act Responsibly, and Respect Everyone! ⭐ We love seeing our students work hard, make positive choices, and earn fun experiences along the way. A huge thank you to Mrs. Hoff and Ms. Mulholland for creating such a fun opportunity for our All-Stars! ❤️🖤

Building Confidence and Self-Esteem in Children
Helping children recognize their strengths, develop positive self-talk, and celebrate what makes them unique is an important part of building healthy self-esteem and confidence. When children feel valued for who they are, they are more likely to take healthy risks, try new things, develop friendships, and approach challenges with resilience.
Here are a few simple ways to build confidence at home:
Recognize strengths: Help your child identify what they do well, whether it's being kind, creative, helpful, determined, or a good friend.
Practice positive self-talk: Encourage children to replace thoughts like "I can't do this" with "I can keep trying" or "I'm still learning."
Celebrate individuality: Remind your child that everyone has different strengths, interests, and abilities, and those differences make us special.
Praise effort and growth: Focus on persistence, problem-solving, and progress rather than just the outcome.
Encourage independence: Give your child opportunities to make age-appropriate decisions, solve small problems, and experience success.
Try This at Home: "Three Things I Like About Me" Invite your child to share three things they like about themselves. Encourage them to think beyond appearance or achievements and recognize qualities such as kindness, courage, creativity, or being a good listener. Remember: Confidence grows when children feel loved, accepted, and encouraged—not because they are perfect, but because they learn to believe in themselves, even when things are difficult. - Students may enter through our main entrance at 7:45 AM and our side entrance by the park starting at 8:00 AM.
- When students arrive, they may walk to their line, put their backpack down, and when the bell rings at 8:00 AM, play.
- The warning bell will sound at 8:13 AM, and students are to walk to their line for the start of school at 8:15 AM.
- Students who enter after 8:15 AM are tardy, and parents will need to bring them to the office to sign them in for the day.
- Students riding bikes must walk their bikes onto campus and store them in the locked fence on campus.
Dismissal
- Students must be picked up from Adams Elementary by 3:05 pm.
- Students will be able to exit any gate at the end of the day. If students are taking the bus, they will meet on the blacktop and be escorted to the buses. If you have an older student, please ensure they pick up their younger siblings (TK-K) before meeting you at your pick-up location.
Attendance Matters
Attendance is very important to a child’s success in school. Students are expected to be here each day on time and ready to learn. However, we understand that there are occasions where an absence may occur. Please be sure to contact the absence hotline to report all absences at (714) 424-7935 and press 2.
Did you know? Research shows that chronically absent students (students with 10% absences over the school year = 18 absences) are less likely to read on grade level by 3rd grade, are more likely to score lower on standardized tests, get suspended in middle school, and are at least four times more likely to not complete high school.
Volunteer Information
🔴Volunteers must complete required MANDATED REPORTER TRAINING🔴
We are happy to welcome volunteers to our campus. Volunteering is a perfect opportunity to become more familiar with our school and support your child’s teacher. Volunteer applications for the 2026-27 school year are now available.
What’s new?
Senate Bill 848 expands Mandated Reporter obligations to include volunteers. (This includes field trip chaperones.)
What does this mean?
The Mandated Reporter training will be issued to returning and new volunteers this year and on an annual basis.
What to expect?
For returning volunteers:
Notifications will be sent by our District Volunteer Coordinator, Sydney Stravolo, to eligible volunteers with instructions on completing their clearance requirements for the upcoming school year. These instructions will include guidance on how to complete the new Mandated Reporter training.
For new volunteers:
Instructions on completing their clearance requirements can be found on our Volunteer Information webpage: https://web.nmusd.us/volunteers.
Adams volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application through the NMUSD website and check in at the office each time through our Raptor System. Please see the link: NMUSD Volunteers.
Once your application is approved, you will receive a notification. All cleared volunteers will then complete an orientation at Adams. Please note that field trip volunteers need to go through the volunteer/visitor system before attending a field trip.
Transportation
Newport Mesa’s transportation department is located at 2985-D Bear Street and can be reached via telephone at 714-424-5084. Transportation can provide you with information regarding applications and schedules. Bus riders enter campus via the sidewalk leading to our front gate.

Whenever emergency drills are held at Adams Elementary (dates are all posted on the Adams Elementary website), we will inform our parent community through our weekly newsletter
