Snack Donations For Testing

This week and next (April 1st-12th) 3rd and 4th graders at UES will engage in the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program (VTCAP) standardized testing. UES is seeking healthy, pre-packaged snack donations (apples, pretzels, grapes, popcorn or similar) to provide learners additional snacks during testing sessions. The UES Caregivers Alliance has a dropbox in the Main Office at UES and we ask that all snacks be nut free. Snacks can be dropped off between now and Friday morning, Thanks for your support! If you have any questions, please reach out to ues.families@gmail.com.

Spring UES Caregiver Feedback

Last Call For Caregiver Feedback!

Please take some time to complete the spring feedback regarding your learner's experience at UES. Please note, feedback will be requested again in June. We are fortunate to have our UES Caregivers Council established this year who helps us digest the feedback we receive, aiming to create the best learning experience possible for all UES learners. If you feel you don't have enough information to answer any of the questions, please don't hesitate to select "I don't know", that is good data for us as well.

Thanks for taking the time to help us grow!

Warmly,

Katie Barea - UES Principal

MRPS District Updates!

  • Eclipse - school closed on April 8th, 2024. Vermont is predicting anywhere from 30,000-200,000 additional people to be entering our state on Monday, April 8, 2024. Local emergency officials have recommended we and our fellow Central Vermont schools close. In addition, all of these Central Vermont school districts are already noting significant staff absentee rates in anticipation of April 8th. In light of these strenuous circumstances on both our immediate school systems as well on our state's infrastructure, Montpelier Roxbury School District will be closed on April 8th. Barre, Harwood, and Washington Central are also closing for the day.

  • Vote - The MRPS Board of School Directors approved the new FY`25 Budget and Warning on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Please vote on or before Tuesday, April 30th, 2024! To learn more about voting and the proposed budget please visit our budget webpage, read this 3/21/24 letter from Superintendent Libby Bonesteel, and review this budget fact sheet.

Registration for the lottery begins on March 15, 2024 and continues through April 5, 2024. Do you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2024? Eclipse Safety From Nurse Megan

All learners will be provided 1 pair of eclipse glasses on Friday, April 5th to take home.

The only safe way to look directly at the eclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or handheld solar viewers. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun; they transmit far more sunlight than is safe for our eyes.

  • Read and follow any instructions printed on or packaged with the filter.

  • Always supervise children using solar filters.

  • If you normally wear eyeglasses, keep them on. Put your eclipse glasses on over them, or hold your handheld viewer in front of them.

  • Stand still and cover your eyes with your eclipse glasses or solar viewer before looking up at the bright Sun. After looking at the Sun, turn away and remove your filter — do not remove it while looking at the Sun.

  • Do not look at the eclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical device.

  • Do not look at the Sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while using your eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewer in front of your eyes — the concentrated solar rays could damage the filter and enter your eyes, causing serious injury.

  • Seek expert advice from an astronomer before using a solar filter with a camera, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device; note that solar filters must be attached to the front of any telescope, binoculars, camera lens, or other optics.
