Hosford Middle School
May 31, 2026
Dear Families,
Happy last week of school! This week is BUSY.
Yearbook signing will be on Tuesday. If your family cannot afford a yearbook, please email me. Students will clean out their lockers on Wednesday and have the end of year dance from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.
On Thursday, 8th graders will be clapped out by the rest of school. You are welcome to join us in the main hall, or on the side walk on 28th Place. If coming inside, be here by 1:25 pm. After the clap out, we'll walk to Cleveland HS for promotion practice.
Promotion starts at 6:30 pm at Cleveland High School. Students should arrive at 6 pm.
Please do not send backpacks or binders on Thursday or Friday. Students should bring a water bottle both days. 6th and 7th grade students will have most classes on Friday and then enjoy an afternoon activity. 7th graders will walk to Cinemagic. 6th graders will enjoy Field Day. 8th grade heads to Oaks Park and then returns to Hosford around 2:45 pm to watch Toy Story 1.
That will send us into Summer Break! Have a great summer!

This resource tells what learning activities were assigned in each class. It is a great way to check on assignments with your child. Middle school is a time when students need help developing the routine of reflection and organizing materials. This resource is your support for those conversations.

Support Hosford STEM
Our STEM 1 class serves the majority of our 6th graders. In this class, students are exposed to coding, engineering and making. For the past 3 years, we have been using the SAM labs platform. This accessible and fun platform allows students to program motors, lights and sensors and is a great introduction to physical computing. The design and creativity we have seen has been amazing!
Unfortunately, we will no longer have access to district funding for this program. If you are able to help out, please follow the SchoolPay QR code below. Any amount helps.
PTSA Update
Thank you so much to everyone who has expressed interest in helping make our PTSA great next year! We are excited for what we can do for the students and staff at Hosford with your support. Many hands make lighter work. Please keep an eye out for an email soon as we form our board and start planning for next year.
If you are interested in joining us (there is always room for more!) please email us at ptsahosford@gmail.com and we will include you in our planning.
Thanks again to all for your support this past year!

Pencil's Needed
We almost made it, but we are out of pencils. If you are willing and able, please click here to donate.
8th Grade Clap Out
On June 4th, you are invited to participate in our clap out at 1:30 pm, arrive by 1:25 pm. We line the halls with students and walk our 8th graders through the building. Everyone claps and waves and holds signs.
The main hall has space to fill and we'd love to see you there. The students are clapped out of the building and we continue over to Cleveland HS for promotion practice.
8th Grade Promotion Details
The promotion ceremony for 8th Grade students is Thursday, June 4th at 6:30 pm at Cleveland HS. We will join together in the auditorium for an hour-long ceremony and then gather in the cafeteria for a snack and mingling until 8:00 pm. You may bring guests and we do not have tickets.
If you or a family member needs access without stairs, you'll enter at the entrance on Franklin Street and need to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 pm. We’ll station a greeter there to guide you. We will not have staff stationed there after the start of the ceremony.
Special thanks to our 6th and 7th Grade parent volunteers and our PTSA for supporting our reception!! We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2030!!
Help students smell better!
Hygiene closet donations
The Hosford Hygiene Closet is looking for donations! Antiperspirant, deodorant, and body wipes are in high demand as we roll into the warmer weather. Other appreciated items are toothbrushes, toothpaste, and socks. Please keep us in mind as you're shopping or see below for some online options. Thank you for considering & contact Ms. Brown with any questions.
7th Grade End of Year Field Trip
7th Grade Cinemagic Trip!
On Friday, June 5th Hosford 7th graders will celebrate a year of hard work by walking up to Cinemagic on Hawthorne to see the movie Frozen. We have enough money to purchase one small bag of popcorn per student. Cinemagic is graciously donating the space to us, and they will be selling concessions to kids. If your student would like to purchase concessions, please send them with money to do so.
Students will leave Hosford around 1:00 pm, walk to Cinemagic, enjoy their movie, and return to school around 3:30 pm. If you are interested in chaperoning, please reach out to Ms. Criswell: ecriswell@pps.net
Required: All students participating in the field trip will need a current Walking Field Trip Permission Form signed. Please complete this as quickly as possible. Only about 60 of the 170 students currently have one on file.

We would love to have a few sixth and seventh grade parents who would be willing to help with this event so our eighth grade families can be fully present for their student.
Set up starts at 5:30 pm and clean up ends at 8:30 pm. The event takes place at the Cleveland High School Cafeteria.
