February 2026 Family Newsletter

Letter from Mrs. Murphy
Dear OES Families,
Welcome to the February edition of the OES Press Family Newsletter!
January was an incredible month of growth and community for our students. We kicked things off by re-teaching student expectations at our PBIS Assembly, so our students are supported and ready to learn as we dive into the second half of the school year.
Our student leaders have truly been the stars of the month! We celebrated the kick-off of our 42 Strong Jr. program, and it has been inspiring to see our students embrace mentorship! Additionally, our Student Council did a fantastic job wrapping up their first term. Their hard work and dedication to making OES a better place are deeply appreciated. We are excited to welcome our new Student Council members for term two!
To top it all off, we had a blast at our Family Movie Night last night! Seeing everyone gathered together to watch The Super Mario Bros. movie was the perfect end to a fantastic month!

42 Strong Jr. Mentorship Kickoff!
Our 42 Strong Jr. assembly was a huge success! OHS High School mentors visited to inspire our students to make a positive difference through leadership and connection.
Moving forward, our students will participate in monthly mentorship pairings:
5th Graders will mentor 3rd Graders.
4th Graders will mentor 2nd Graders from Daniel Axford.
We are so proud of our leaders for stepping up to support their peers!
PBIS Expectations
PBIS Assembly: Leading by Example! Our students recently gathered for our January PBIS Assembly focused on our school-wide Essential Agreements. Our Student Council leaders did an outstanding job re-teaching the expectations for the cafeteria, hallway, bathroom, recess, and bus/dismissal.
A huge shout-out to Mrs. Horton and Mrs. Shafer for their hilarious (and helpful!) "What Not To Do" skits. By acting out exactly how not to behave in these areas!
To bring it all together, students were encouraged to turn in "Take Action" slips to demonstrate how they are personally committing to these expectations. We encourage you to ask your child how they are taking action by being Principled, Caring, and Thinkers at OES every day!

Warm Winter Gear & Updates to Playground Snow Maintenance
❄️ Winter Wonderland at Recess!
Our students are having a blast playing in the snow during recess! It is wonderful to see them staying active and enjoying the winter weather together.
To ensure everyone can join in the fun, please remember to send your child to school with their winter gear every day. While our incredible maintenance team works hard to keep the basketball court cleared, heavy snowfall during the day or early in the morning means the entire court isn't always cleared by recess time. When students don’t have the appropriate winter attire, it makes it very difficult for them to play in a cleared area.
Please ensure your child comes to school prepared with the following (LABELED) winter items every day:
Warm Coat
Boots
Hat
Gloves or Mittens
Snow Pants
Thank you for helping us make sure every student can make the most of our snowy OES recess!
Thank You, Parent Volunteers!
We ❤️ Our Volunteers! The PBIS School Store is a student favorite, but it simply would not exist without the support of our amazing OES parents. Thank you for investing in our students' success. You are the heart of our school community!
