A Message from the Superintendent
Dear North Huron Families,
As October and our first marking period come to a close, we have much to celebrate at North Huron. This monthβs newsletter highlights student accomplishments, memorable learning experiences, and upcoming opportunities to come together as a school community.
Thank you to our staff, families, and community members for supporting our students each day. We hope you enjoy seeing what our Warriors have been learning and doing, and we look forward to seeing you at our November events!

Getting Back to Basics at North Huronπππ
When we talk about βGetting Back to Basicsβ at North Huron, weβre talking about making sure our students can read with understanding, express their ideas in writing, and use mathematics confidently. Those skills affect how well students do in every subject.
We also want our students to ask questions and explain how they arrived at an answer. When something is difficult, they need support and time to work through it. That practice is an important part of learning.
Technology can help, but we have to be thoughtful about how we use it. Finishing an online assignment or getting the correct answer does not necessarily mean a student understands the material. We need to know whether students can explain what they learned and use it on their own.
The same concern applies to artificial intelligence. AI can produce an answer or write a paragraph in seconds. Students still need to develop their own ideas and know enough about a subject to recognize when an answer is inaccurate or incomplete.
For us, "Getting Back to Basics" means keeping reading, writing, and mathematics a priority. We need to make time for classroom discussion and hands-on work, check studentsβ understanding, and provide additional help where it is needed. When we use technology, it should help students understand what they are learning.
Families can help, too. Read with your children, talk about what they are learning, and ask them to explain their thinking. Questions such as βHow do you know?β or βWhat have you tried?β can lead to useful conversations. You do not have to know every answer to help your child work toward one.
We want our students to leave North Huron able to think for themselves and use what they have learned. That starts with getting the "basics" right.

Help Shape North Huronβs Portrait of a Graduateππππ
As we continue developing our Portrait of a North Huron Graduate, we invite families and community members to help answer an important question: What should every North Huron student know and be able to do by the time they graduate?
The portrait will identify the knowledge, skills, and personal qualities we want students to develop throughout their time at North Huron. Your input will help shape this shared vision and guide future decisions about student learning and opportunities.
Please join us at one of our upcoming community meetings to share your ideas. All meetings will take place from 4:30β6:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 17: Port Austin Welcome Center
Wednesday, November 18: Port Hope Community Center

North Huron FFA Students Attend National Conventionππ€©π
Members of the North Huron FFA Chapter, under the guidance of FFA teacher Mrs. Nicole Welchner, attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, from October 19β24. More than 70,000 FFA members from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands attended the convention.
During the trip, members attended convention sessions, heard from a keynote speaker, and explored the college and career expo, which featured more than 270 colleges and industry representatives.
North Huron was also represented in the National Floriculture contest by Dana Koth, Jentry Zimmerman, AnnaMarie Prill, and Allison Souva. In addition, Ryan Iseler, Clayton Stanton, and Payton Talaski received the prestigious American FFA Degree. Congratulations to these members on their accomplishments!
North Huron members traveled alongside FFA chapters from our region. Along the way, they visited Jungle Jimβs International Market and the Cincinnati Zoo. While in Indianapolis, they toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and kissed the bricks, attended a rodeo, and enjoyed an evening of roller skating.
It was an unforgettable experience for our students, and they look forward to earning the opportunity to return!

8th & 9th Grade Pennsylvania Trip Memories ππππ
North Huronβs eighth- and ninth-grade students returned from Pennsylvania this month with memories to last well beyond the school year. From standing near the Liberty Bell to climbing the famous Rocky Steps, students shared an experience that brought American history to life.
In Philadelphia, students explored Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross House, the Benjamin Franklin Museum, and Eastern State Penitentiary. The following day, they toured Valley Forge and Gettysburg, walking through places they had learned about in the classroom.
Along the way, students had opportunities to build friendships, explore new places, and make lasting memories together. A special thank-you to North Huron science teacher and trip coordinator Mrs. Emily Polega for organizing the trip and itinerary and making this memorable experience possible!
