Painting with a Purpose

On April 26, Caraway Elementary families learned about the programs and events offered by the FACE Department while enjoying an evening full of art. Aldine ISD Art teacher Mrs. Yvonne Lopez Taylor did an outstanding job guiding parents to create self-portraits.

ESL Classes

Over 90 parents enrolled in the Family and Community University's ESL classes at St. John Neumann. It is great to see the excitement and determination of Aldine families willing to learn English and attend these classes after long working hours. The classes are offered twice a week and will end in May.

Chat with FACE

Our April Chat with FACE asked about the importance of seeing families as collaborators in their students' education. According to Mapp and Bergman (2021), nondominant families are treated at best as spectators of the school's work.

1) How can we change this perspective? How can we give voice to these families?

You can participate in our next Chat with Face #PD2ChatwFACE on May 13th.

Everybody is welcome!

Visit AldineISD.org/FACE to connect.

Aldine ISD Spring Festival

On Saturday, April 29th, the FACE team participated in the Spring Festival hosted by the Multilingual Department. Hundreds of families enjoyed performances from Aldine students while visiting the booths to learn about the programs offered by the district and organizations in the community.

Family and Community University

The FACE Department will celebrate the families attending the Family and Community University with a beautiful graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 24th, at Davis High School. Families still have time to meet the graduation requirements by attending 15 sessions.

Families have a variety of topics of interest either in person, virtually, or through pre-recorded sessions.

The Family and Community University is not only fulfilling the purpose of providing adult education but also a great source of employment opportunities. We are happy to share that some of the parents attending the university are working now for the district.
