Collaboration and training.
As part of ongoing professional development and collaboration, Elizabeth School District often works with other agencies in an effort to exchange ideas and improve public service. On Wednesday, ESD Public Information Officer Jeff Maher assisted the Adams County Sheriff's Office with a media training session held at the Adams County Government Center.
The group went through various exercises and simulations including press conferences and interviews on various topics. The scenarios presented were designed to replicate real life scenarios of breaking news, emergency situations and investigative journalism. Prior to joining Elizabeth School District, Maher spent 20 years working as an anchor and reporter across the country and worked closely with various law enforcement agencies including Albuquerque Police, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI.
"Working with the Adams County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Gene Claps was a fantastic experience," says Maher. "I jumped at the opportunity to lend my expertise to their team and collectively as a group, we all greatly benefited from the scenarios that we ran through. It's important to work with agencies across the state in order to keep up with training, stay on top of trends within the realm of crisis communications and community outreach, and to share insight and experiences with each other."
The team will continue to collaborate with each other on media relations and compliance and will be exploring opportunities for future training exercises.
