12 more days of school
Make these last 12 days of school count by focusing on reflection, celebration, and transitioning your students to the summer break. Here are some suggestions:
- Celebrate learning. Talk about their learning journey, what they've enjoyed, and skills they've developed. Ask your student “What are the top 10 things you learned this year?”
- Focus on progress made, not just individual achievement. Ask them “What did you mastered this year?” or “What did you make the most progress on this year?”
- Suggest a summer reading list and consider participating in Sequoyah’s Public Library summer reading program (more on this below).
- With your student, brainstorm about engaging in fun activities, or even planning a virtual field trip to keep their minds active during the break.
-
In 12 days, your 6th grader will officially be a 7th grader. Have them write a letter to a pretend student coming into the grade they just completed. They can write and share with the student what to expect when they come in 6th grade, what 6th grade will be like, etc. Adapt this for any grade level.
- Acknowledge the last day of school. Consider a special dinner or dessert, a scavenger hunt or a visit to the park.
-
For most, the end of the school year is a time of celebration. For others, it can be a time to adjust and grieve the change in routines, friends, etc. Support your student by giving them time and space to adjust.
Monitoring student progress in SY25-26
We continue to encourage parents to learn to navigate Canvas and get all set for next school year. While the 24-25 academic year is coming to an end, it's never too late to set up your Canvas Parent account - and use it on a desktop computer or a smartphone. Below are some links that can assist you with that. If you would like to meet one-on-one with our parent facilitator - Yudy Soro - please complete this form below. She can help you with Canvas, and some limited settings for ParentSquare and ParentVue.
