TALON TALK
π¬ Principal's Message
Hello, Reynolds Families!
We've wrapped up another outstanding week of learning here at Our House, and students have been engaged and focused on learning and growth!
Weekend Weather Safety
Please stay safe and warm this weekend with the inclement weather expected. If weather conditions affect school operations, watch for notifications, social media updates, and information on Prosper ISD's website. The district will let families know about any scheduled changes.
Course Selection for Next Year
Middle school course selection will be opening soon. Our counselors will be stopping by classes to help students through this process and answer their questions. We're also hosting Coffee with the Counselor on February 11th for rising 7th and 8th grade families. This session is designed to help with any questions or concerns you might have about course options for next year.
Have a safe and restful weekend!
Dr. Jess Mullins
Principal, Reynolds Middle School

π£ Reminders for Students & Parents
Dress Code Reminder - Hats & Hoods
As we continue through the school year, we'd like to remind families of our campus dress code policies regarding head coverings:
- Hats, caps, beanies, and non-religious head coverings should not be worn while on campus (except on Fridays).
- Hoods must remain down while on campus. Students may wear their hoods up while transitioning to portable classrooms but must remove them upon entering the classroom.
Thank you for helping us maintain a respectful learning environment. If you have any questions about our dress code policies, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Important Attendance Reminder
As we return from winter break and begin this new calendar year together, I want to discuss something that significantly impacts your child's success: daily attendance.
Why Every Day Matters
In Prosper ISD, we're committed to championing every student's journey to excellence, and that journey happens here, in our classrooms, every single day. When students are consistently present, they develop essential life competencies, including self-management, perseverance, and accountabilityβqualities that prepare them to thrive in college, career, the military, and life.
Consider these important facts about attendance:
- Missing just 2 days per month equals 10% of instructional timeβnearly 4 weeks of learning lost over a school year
- Students with 90% or better attendance are significantly more likely to graduate on time
- Chronic absenteeism in elementary school can predict lower reading proficiency by third grade
- Regular attendance builds stronger peer relationships and deeper connections to school
When Your Child Is Sick
Of course, when your child is genuinely ill, we want them to stay home, rest, and recover. Keeping sick children home protects the health of our entire school community and allows your child to return ready to learn. Our attendance focus is on discretionary absencesβdays when students are healthy but miss school for trips, appointments, or other reasons that can be scheduled outside school hours. Every day of instruction matters, and we encourage families to prioritize school attendance when children are well.
Attendance Requirements to help your child stay on track:
- Students must maintain 90% attendance in each class to receive course credit
- In middle school and high school, attendance is recorded each class periodβmissing even one class counts toward this threshold.
- Attendance is taken once per day at elementary school, but we know that learning happens all day
- Both excused and unexcused absences count toward the 90% requirement
- Absences should be documented within three school days (up to four parent notes per semester)
- Students falling below 90% may need an attendance recovery plan to maintain course credit
Partnering Together
At Prosper ISD, we believe families are integral partners in education. When your child must miss school, please communicate with teachers and help them complete missed work promptly. As you plan for the months ahead, please schedule appointments and trips outside school hours whenever possible.
Together, we cultivate meaningful connections and prosper when every member of our community shows up ready to learn and grow. By ensuring consistent attendance, you help us maintain the personal connections that make every student feel known, seen, and valued.
If you have questions or need support addressing attendance challenges, please reach outβwe're here to help.
Here's to Excellence Every Day in Every Way in 2026!
