MTSS Lead Weekly Updates
Week of August 31, 2026
Family Communication of Results (reposted from 8/24/26)
Home Literacy Reports K-5
In accordance with TCA 49-1-905, it is required that students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 who fall below the 16th percentile on iReady Inform should receive a copy of the MSCS Home Literacy Report Letter along with the iReady Inform Results Individual Report. It is recommended that any student who falls below the 24th percentile on iReady Inform receive the same information following the fall screener to provide a baseline for where the student is in August against peers.
Questions can be emailed to RTI2@scsk12.org.
iReady Inform Results
Students who completed the iReady Inform assessments during the fall universal screening window should be provided a copy of the results in the home communication folder that is sent home by schools. This allows families to see where their student is currently performing as well as where they need to aim for in the winter when completing the middle of year assessment.
Instruction and Intervention
Comprehensive Student Review Sheet (CSRS)
The Comprehensive Student Review Sheet (CSRS) should be fully completed for the month of August for students who were known to be continuing RTI2A from May 2026. Once the data team meets there will be newly identified students who are added following the fall universal screening. We are in that phase now as the window has closed and school data teams should be working collaboratively, using multiple data points to determine what student supports best meet the needs.
Please ensure that the student instruction and intervention matches the student's identified needs. For example, the 5th grade student's deficit is oral reading fluency (ORF) grade 4, but the teacher is working on oral reading fluency (ORF) grade 2 because that is what the other students in the group need with all students practicing at the grade 2 instructional level. This would be an example of where the student would likely benefit from a different group so that the student can work at the correct instructional level. Instructional and enrolled grade levels should both be completed on the CSRS.
Classroom Essentials
The Classroom Essentials Lesson Template is available in the Master Templates folder and should be posted and visible during RTI2A so that anyone observing instruction and intervention can review the groupings and planned supports.
What do I do with students not in intervention?
TN Legislature passed a new bill in July that limits screen time for students in grades K-5. Please be mindful about the total amount of time per week that students are engaging with computer software especially when they are not part of intervention groups as this could potentially be in excess of 4.5 hours over the course of the week if the student is told to log on each time the intervention block arrives over the course of the week. This is a reminder that Curriculum Associates iReady recommends 30-49 minutes of personalized instruction a week per content. Teachers should monitor time and student progress.
For students not participating in teacher led small groups, consider the following activities as suggestions:
- independent practice with writing or math fact fluency sheets and timer
- peer practice where students read together and then respond to a set of questions
- peer practice where students solve TCAP style math problems and log answers
- partner fluency practice
- word work station where students match meanings and then use the words in sentences that they log; bonus if they can then find the words in the text
Professional Development
To ensure protection of Leadership Development Week and maintain safety and full coverage during dismissals, we will not be scheduling professional development during Leadership Development Week. Communication for this week's sessions have been sent to all facilitators and registered participants in PLZ. Please check the September Professional Development calendar that will be updated once new dates have been confirmed with vendors.
ILPD
Maintain a Tracker for ILPD Parent Notfications
For students deemed eligible, the MTSS Lead should create a record of decision using the ILPD tiles in TNPulse and TNPulse ILPD parent notification should be sent home along with the ILPD Family Information one pager.
Tracker should include the student name, date the parent notification was sent home the first time, dates and methods for two additional attempts within 10 days from initial.
Parent response of yes, no, or no response must then be noted in TNPulse within 30 days of the initial notification. Note that this is a recent update (July 2026) to the ILPD entry process. More information is available in the TDOE Characteristics of Dyslexia folder if needed, but you can also request support via MSCS Office Hours Request Form.
Video Support
Due to the updates to the ILPD tiles in July 2026, we've hosted several office hours in support and will continue to host office hours in September. During that time I've done video recordings showing the steps and highlighting key information. A copy of the video clip is available in the On Target for Success SharePoint in the TDOE Characteristics of Dyslexia folder.
Reminders
iReady Report Groups
Curriculum Associates and RTI2A Team will collaborate to create report groups by schools of students who have Tier 2/3 intervention plans by September 14th. This will allow us to better monitor usage and growth for students who should be using lessons and resources from iReady.
iReady School Admin Access
Over the summer some school admin access was removed as part of a major clean up to our account. If you do not have access and serve in the role of principal, assistant principal, PLC Coach, MTSS Lead, you can email RTI2@scsk12.org and we will work with the vendor to restore access. As a reminder only these roles should have school admin access. SEAs and the SPED Chair have school staff access which has view access only.
Progress Monitoring
Students with Tier 2/3 intervention plans who are receiving instruction and intervention should have two progress monitoring schedules in Pearson aimswebPlus. 1. at the enrolled grade level 2. instructional level and deficit area
MTSS Leads Should Share Updates
MTSS Leads should share Weekly Updates with other staff in the building as appropriate to ensure that everyone is clear on expectations, but also knows where to go for resources. MTSS Leads serve as a conduit for information and not as a stop. If you are no longer the MTSS Lead please contact your school principal and have them to update the Leadership Launchpad school contacts.
