JULY- AUGUST
AUGUST IS LIONS INCLUSE MONTH.
MESAGES
A Personal Note from Your District Governor
As your District Governor, I want to remind everyone that I would never contact you privately to ask for financial assistance, gift cards, electronic payments, or money to purchase anything for me personally.
If you ever receive an email, text message, social media message, or phone call that appears to come from me requesting money, gift cards, Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, cryptocurrency, or any other personal financial assistance, please assume it is a scam until you have verified it with me directly.
If I ever ask for support for a District project or Lions initiative, it will always be communicated through official District channels and will clearly explain the purpose of the fundraiser or service project.
If you are ever unsure whether a message is legitimate, please don't hesitate to contact me directly before responding. I'd much rather answer a quick phone call than have one of our Lions become the victim of fraud.
Thank you for helping protect yourself and our Lions family.

Fellow Lions,
July has been a wonderful reminder of what makes Lionism so special serving together,
building friendships and witnessing the incredible impact we have when we come together.
On July 3, PDG Gary and I traveled to the Kutztown Homestead Festival, where we had the
opportunity to lend a hand at the famous Kutztown Lions Dutch Fries stand. It was certainly a
hot day, but the fellowship made every minute worthwhile! I had the privilege of chopping
peppers and onions before learning how to operate the potato peeler and slicer. It was a fun
experience, and I gained a new appreciation for all of the hard work that goes into making
those delicious fries.
The Boyertown Lions Club also had the pleasure of visiting the Blandon Lions Club at their new
meeting location at Keystone Villa of Fleetwood. It was wonderful to spend time together,
enjoy fellowship and support another club within our district.
From July 17–19, PDG Gary and I had the opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania Lions Beacon
Lodge Camp for the annual Pennsylvania Lions Appreciation Days. What an incredible weekend!
We enjoyed watching the famous duck race (although I have to admit, my duck didn't win again
this year!), but the true highlight was spending time with the campers.
This session included 53 adult campers, many of whom have been attending Beacon Lodge
since they were children. It was heartwarming to hear their stories and see how much this
special place has meant throughout their lives.
On Sunday, we were treated to an amazing talent show performed by these remarkable
individuals. I continue to be inspired by their positive attitudes, joyful spirits, and willingness to
share their talents with all of us.
One performance, in particular, touched my heart. A camper whose name I unfortunately
cannot remember played the keyboard while leading us in several patriotic songs. Watching her
confidently play from memory while living with limited vision was simply inspiring. As someone
who cannot play the piano myself, I was in awe of her talent, determination, and love of music.
Another unforgettable moment came when two campers performed "It Used to Be My
Playground." They dedicated the song to the playground in the Children's Village, sharing that
they had both attended Beacon Lodge since they were children and had grown up making
memories on that very playground. I hadn't heard that song in years, and hearing them sing
every word from memory was incredibly moving. It was one of those moments that reminds
you how deeply Beacon Lodge touches lives and creates memories that last a lifetime.
If you have never attended Pennsylvania Lions Appreciation Days at Beacon Lodge Camp, I
encourage you to put it on your calendar for next year. It is an experience that will remind you
exactly why we do what we do as Lions. You'll witness firsthand the joy, hope, friendships, and
opportunities that your service helps make possible. It is a weekend that fills your heart, renews
your passion for serving others, and reminds us that our compassion and commitment truly
make a difference in the lives of those who need our support.
As your District Governor, one of my goals this year is to attend at least one service project or
fundraiser hosted by every club in District 14-P. I don't want to simply stop by and say hello—I
want to roll up my sleeves, work alongside you, and lend a helping hand wherever it is needed.
Whether you're serving food at a fundraiser, cleaning up a park, conducting a vision screening,
or hosting a community event, I would love the opportunity to serve with you.
Please let me know about your upcoming service projects and fundraisers. If my schedule
allows, I'll be there to support your club, celebrate your successes, and experience firsthand the
incredible work you are doing in your communities. One of the greatest joys of being District
Governor is serving alongside each of you.
Thank you to every Lion who continues to give your time, your talents, and your heart to
serving others. Every fundraiser, every service project, and every hour volunteered makes a
difference. Together, we are changing lives one act of kindness at a time.
As International President Mark Lyon reminds us, we are Rooted in Service, and together in
District 14-P we will continue Cooking Up Service for our communities. Thank you for all you do
to make our district stronger and our communities better.
Yours in Lionism,
Lion Paula Hilbert
District Governor, District 14-P
As we prepare for the upcoming Lions year, we are excited to announce that District 14-P is developing a new district website that will serve as a central resource for Lions and the public throughout Berks and Chester Counties.
One of the features of the new website will be a directory of club websites, allowing visitors to easily learn more about the amazing work being done by our clubs. To help make this resource as effective as possible, we ask that each club review and update its website to ensure that current officers, service projects, fundraisers, meeting information, and upcoming events are accurate and up to date.
We also encourage clubs to review their Facebook and social media pages and make sure they reflect your most recent activities and accomplishments. These platforms are often the first impression prospective members have of our organization.
In addition, the new district website will feature an Activities & Events Calendar where clubs can submit upcoming fundraisers, service projects, and community events. Our goal is to promote club activities throughout the district, increase public awareness of Lions service, encourage collaboration between clubs, and help attract new members.
People are more likely to join Lions when they see the impact we are making in our communities. The more we educate the public about what Lions do, the greater our opportunity to attract like-minded individuals who share our passion for service.
Thank you for everything you do to make a difference in your communities. Together, we can showcase the incredible work of Lions throughout Berks and Chester Counties and strengthen our district for years to come.

Notes From Your FVDG
This month I have been working on a project with the approval of our District Governor, Lion Paula
Hilbert. My goal is to survey every club through their secretary and publish a list of all of the communities in Berks and Chester County showing whether or not they are currently being served by a Lions Club, and which Club indicates they are serving those communities.
I have sent out the survey to all club secretaries and, as of today, 8/26, 11 district 14P clubs have
responded. I look forward to hearing from the other 20 clubs in the near future.
I had a great time at the Beacon Lodge Lions Appreciation Day, meeting many new Lions and seeing old friends again. I learned a lot of interesting things about Beacon Lodge and enjoyed the final day's talent show.
Lions Eyes Article for July 2026
2VDG-Elect – Matt Hensinger, Global Membership Coordinator for District 14P.
As we reflect on the celebration of our country’s 250 th Semi quincentennial, it makes me
think about all the great things that we do in Lions International to live up to our motto,
“We Serve”. I am so proud of our organization, because we live up to the values of our
Nation’s forefathers in executing our mission as Lions. I will give you a few things to think
about this month and hope to energize your work in your individual clubs.
Daily Reminders for Great Service (from the George Mason Center for the Advancement of Well-Being):
Listen first: Understand the real need before jumping to an answer.
Show kindness: Small acts of care stay with people for a long time.
Own the solution: Fix problems with a positive and helpful attitude.
Why Service Matters (from the Discover Corps):
Lasting impact: Your daily help turns frustrating moments into relief and trust.
Human connection: Empathy builds stronger bonds than any quick fix.
True value: Serving others gives real meaning to our work every day.
As we in America mark our 250th Anniversary, we celebrate 250 years of unity, courage,
and service. This milestone honors those who sacrifice for others and inspire us to build a
stronger future together. Let’s carry on that spirit of American service in District 14-P. In
honoring our past by celebrating our courageous founders; the people who risked
everything to launch a new dream in 1776; our everyday heroes who were neighbors,
builders, and trailblazers that shaped our local communities; and the selfless service of
Veterans and US Service members who protect our freedom every single day, we make a
payment on the debt we owe them for their sacrifices.
We must continue serving our future by lifting each other up; choosing kindness, listening
closely, and bridging our divides. We must protect our ideals; stand firm for liberty,
equality, and justice for all people. Finally, we must renew our commitment and act with
bold hope so our nation remains a beacon of light for the next 250 years.
May the spirit of American and Lionism be with you all in your club endeavors! “We
Serve!”

NEW MEMBER CONTEST
Greetings, Lions!
As your District Governor, one of our goals this year is to welcome 105 new members, achieve a net gain of 7 members, and charter one new Lions Club. These are ambitious goals, but I truly believe that by working together, we can accomplish them while having fun along the way.
As we planned for this Lions year, We wanted to find a way to encourage friendly competition, recognize the incredible work our clubs are already doing, and celebrate the members who are helping our organization grow. That is how the District 14-P "Cooking Up New Members!" Membership Challenge was created.
This challenge isn't simply about increasing membership numbers. It is about building relationships, sharing our stories, inviting others to serve alongside us, and ensuring that our clubs remain strong for generations to come. Every guest you invite to a meeting, every service project you promote, every community event you participate in, and every new member you sponsor helps strengthen not only your club, but our entire district.
As we embrace International President Mark Lyon's theme, "Rooted in Service," we are reminded that strong roots produce healthy growth. Together, through our District theme, “Cooking Up Service,” we can continue growing Lions clubs that make an even greater impact throughout Berks and Chester Counties.
To make this challenge exciting, clubs and individual Lions will have opportunities to earn recognition and prizes throughout the year. I have attached a flyer explaining the points value and the prizes. I also have two trackers attached one is an Excell format that is editable and another tracker in case you do not use Excell.
Thank you for your leadership, your dedication, and everything you do for your communities. I look forward to watching our district grow, celebrating your successes, visiting your clubs, and working alongside you throughout the year.
Let's have fun, support one another, and start Cooking Up New Members!

Attached is a flyer promoting the rental possibilities at PA Lions Beacon Lodge

exerted effort made to generate interest in leasing the camp during the off season

is from rentals.
We ask that you include the attached rental flyer in your District Newsletters.
To make rental arrangements and to include specific services, please contact Lion Kelly McMullen, Programs Director at 814-542-2511or Kellym@beaconlodge.org.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST
It's not too early to start thinking which schools you can contact about the PEACE POSTER CONTEST.
September to Deadline in October is a very short time for the students to work on their posters.
For last year's contest the District only received 2 posters. The Poster doesn't have to come from a Leo; any student can enter. Please think about reaching out to schools in your area and encourage them to do a poster.
Our Peace Poster Contest Brings Your Community Together
The Peace Poster Contest invites young people around the world to express their creativity while sharing their unique vision of peace. This special blog shows the powerful impact the contest has on our clubs, our youth and our communities.
