Life After High School

Whether you clicked that commit button on your college dashboard on May 1st, planning to join military, decided to learn a trade, or wanting to take a gap year, we want to celebrate!

Let Ms. Stevie and the Counseling Department know what your plans are after high school. Stop by so Ms. Stevie can snap a picture with your future school pennant (she has A LOT if you don't) or trade pennant (yes, they have pennants, too!) She would love to decorate the College & Career Center with all your excited faces! You can also send her a picture of you in uniform or on your gap year experience.

There are many paths after high school and we want to acknowledge them all!

A Word About Laker Talk CRLE Opportunity

Career-Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs) are structured educational experiences that connect learning to the world beyond the classroom. You need to complete two different learning experiences (minimum 5 hours each) by the end of senior year. Something to note about the two CRLEs is that one requires the performance evaluation on the back of the form to be completed by a supervisor/organizer/teacher and one does not. The Laker Talk CRLE opportunity would be a CRLE that does not require a completed performance evaluation. If you already have a CRLE on file that does not have the performance evaluation, the Laker Talks would not work as a second CRLE.

Even if you have fulfilled your CRLE requirements, I hope that you will attend if one of the many fantastic speakers we have lined up interests you.

Public vs. Private Public vs. Private

The main difference between public and private colleges/universities are where they receive their funding. Public colleges and universities are funded by the federal government while private institutions are supported by their own endowment funds and students' tuition fees. Though private colleges and universities have a more expensive price tag, they often offer generous financial aid packages to cut down on overall cost of attendance.

This article from US News breaks down the differences quite nicely.
