Eastside Elementary
Eastside Families,
Welcome to a new school year! I hope your family had a wonderful summer and is as excited as we are to begin another year at Eastside Elementary. There is something special about the start of school—the energy in the building, the excitement of seeing familiar faces again, and the opportunity to begin fresh together.
At Eastside, we prepare scholars to chart their own course through learning experiences that equip them with the knowledge, skills, and resilience to discover their own unique path to success. We achieve this through highly effective teaching and learning each day, and by collaborating with many community leaders and organizations to blend Wyoming State Learning Standards into real world learning applications and career exploration opportunities. That means providing excellent instruction every day, helping students discover what they are capable of, building resilience when things are difficult, and creating meaningful opportunities for students to connect what they learn in school to the world around them. It also means creating a school where every child knows they belong.
One of the ways we build that culture is through S.O.A.R. At Eastside, we teach our Eagles to be Safe, show Ownership, have a positive Attitude, and show Respect. These are more than school rules. They are qualities we want our students to carry with them wherever they go. Throughout the year, our staff will explicitly teach, model, recognize, and reinforce what it means to SOAR—in the classroom, on the playground, in the cafeteria, and throughout our community.
We also believe in holding our students to high expectations. Our students are capable of tremendous things, and they deserve adults who believe that about them. We will challenge students academically, celebrate their growth, help them learn from mistakes, and teach them that effort, responsibility, perseverance, and character matter. None of that work happens through the school alone.
Families are essential partners in a child's education. When the adults at home and the adults at school work together, students benefit. Some of the most powerful things families can do are also some of the simplest: establish consistent routines, make attendance and arriving on time a priority, read together, ask your child what they are learning, and stay connected with your child's teacher. One of my favorite questions to ask students is, “What did you learn today?” I encourage you to ask it too—and don't let them get away with “nothing!” Ask them to teach you something, explain a problem they solved, tell you about something that challenged them, or share something they are proud of..
As we begin this year, I also want our families to know that we are continuing to grow as a school. We are committed to strong teaching and learning, a positive school culture, meaningful collaboration, real-world learning opportunities, and continually getting better at what we do. We are proud of Eastside, but we are not interested in standing still. Our goal is to keep building a school our students, staff, families, and community are proud to call theirs. You are a key member in this endeavor.
Thank you for trusting us with your children. That is a responsibility we take seriously, and it is a privilege to serve them each day. I am excited about what is ahead for our Eagles this year. Let's make it a great one.
Together, We Soar!
