Chapelfield Culture & Community Night 2025

Principal Corner Principal Corner

Happy Thursday, Chapelfield families.

I hope you were able to check out the post on GJPS about our Culture, Town, and Art Night. The communication department was able to make this video showcasing our wonderful school community. Please take a moment to watch it if you haven't seen it! We have a lot to celebrate at Chapelfield.

This week, we finished testing 3rd-5th grade in the Ohio State Test in English Language Arts. Next week, we begin assessing on math! Please see the schedule down below. Our students are showing their Positive attitude and Hard Work these last 2 weeks! We are so proud of them.

Please enjoy the long weekend to recharge and spend time together as a family.

We will see everyone back on Monday, April 21!

Sincerely,

Nikki Miller

Please don't forget to take your Title 1 survey down below. We have 222 families who took the survey. We want to get to 250 surveys in order to have PTO give us a Kona ice truck! (The 80% was calculated wrong....we are so close. We need 28 more surveys completed by Friday. Remember that both guardians can take the survey! We are so close.

Hello Families!

Learning to regulate emotions is not an innate skill; it requires modeling, teaching, learning, and consistent practice. All children experience moments of big emotions, and it is crucial to provide them with strategies to manage their emotions in healthy and constructive ways. One way to have conversations at home about our emotions is through reading picture books. See below for a few you can find at our local library!

GRIN provides weekend snack bags to be sent home on Fridays for families in need. If this is something you would be interested in, please email me at jasink@gjps.org.

If you have a social, emotional concern for your child that impacts them while they are at school and would like to share this with me to see how we can help support your child, please reach out to me at jasink@gjps.org.

Best,

Krysten Jasin - School Counselor

Art Room Update from Mrs. Karr

Kindergarten and first graders have finished their rainbow swipe paintings and have begun to use scissors and glue to add collage elements. We talked about the safe way to use scissors as well as how to use the appropriate amount of glue (“A little dot, not a lot!”)

Second graders have been working on their clay coil plaques and they are so beautiful! Students used coils, spirals and dots to create designs. They are finishing up wet clay this week and will be fired and ready for glaze in the next week.

Third graders are hard at work making clay coil pots. We discussed how to attach pieces of clay (score, wet, stick) as well as what happens to clay when it dries (it shrinks as moisture evaporates). These coil pots will dry over the next week and will be ready for firing and glazing in the next 1-2 weeks.

Fourth graders have been experimenting with weaving. We looked at some traditional methods as well as some more advanced and out of the box techniques. After some research and inspiration, students were able to choose their own weaving adventure.

Fifth graders are learning about One Point Perspective. We began with a pre-draw to assess background knowledge. Then we looked at some examples of one-point perspective in art and real life. We finished up our introduction by doing some step-by-step tutorials together. We even made a connection to a Cat Kid Comic Club book! Next, students will use this new technical drawing skill to create a one-point perspective drawing of their choice.

Experience the Arts

We recently recognized 6 students from Chapelfield at the Gahanna Library. Experience the Arts is an art show organized by the Community Art program at GLHS. We celebrated our students at a reception this week. Their artwork will be on display in the children’s section of the library until May 10th. Congratulations to… Zahara Kamara (Kindergarten), Kyra Trott (1st grade), Ramsey Hayes (2nd grade), Gemma Stein (3rd grade), Jadakis Ford (4th grade) and Brock Doyle (5th grade).

Art Show

I would like to thank everyone who visited the art show during Culture, Town and Art Night. It is a wonderful way to celebrate every student and their accomplishments in art this year. The “Glow Gallery” was a new feature that made for a unique viewing experience!

Field Day-Mr. Scheibeck

Save the Date: Field Day - May 21st!
Mark your calendars! Our annual Field Day is coming up on May 21st. More details will be shared in the next couple of weeks.

We will be asking for parent volunteers to help make this day special. One benefit of being a parent volunteer is the opportunity to engage with your child’s class and support their physical activity in a fun and energetic environment.

Stay tuned for more information about volunteering and how you can be part of this exciting event!

Spring Ohio State Testing (OST) Calendar Spring Ohio State Testing (OST) Calendar

Spring will be here before you know it. As you know, there is a lot of state testing that happens in April. See the dates before for 3rd-5th grade state testing as you make appointments. Thank you for your support.

Visitors Visitors

We kindly ask that ALL visitors follow the steps below each and every time you visit Chapelfield:

1. Once at the front, exterior doors of the school, press the buzzer. A member of the office staff will ask your reason for visiting Chapelfield.

2. Once inside the vestibule, you will enter your drivers' license or state ID into the scanner. ALL visitors/guests/guardians need to scan their drivers license EACH and EVERY time they visit Chapelfield.

3. Once your license has been scanned and processed you will be permitted to enter the main office area to pick up your visitor/volunteer badge.

4. If you have NEVER had your driver's licensed scanned at Chapelfield before, this will take a longer time. You will want to plan accordingly.

**As a reminder, if there is a non-guardian planning to visit Chapelfield for any reason (to eat lunch, read a book in the classroom, visit the bookfair, take your child to an appointment etc.), we ask that the guardian email the teacher and front office (gilzows@gjps.org ) to let us know prior to the visit.

Our Vestibule

The vestibule will be a place you have to wait if you are picking up a student, dropping off a book bag or lunch box.

The office is a busy place and there are times that we are dealing with student confidential issues. The vestibule will be a place to wait. It also allows us to keep our building safe. We want to keep students and staff safe including keeping confidential information safe. Thank you for understanding.

Thank you PTO for all you do for Chapelfield. Thank you PTO for all you do for Chapelfield.

5th grade parents ONLY 5th grade parents ONLY

Dear 5th Grade Families,

The end of the year will be here before we know it, and we will be celebrating our children's last year of elementary school. There will be several fun things to come, and we wanted to get a head start on collecting photos for two separate projects.

1. Baby Photo Guessing Game: Please submit a photo of your child as a baby. The students will walk around and try to identify as many of their classmates as possible as an infant. The student with the most correct matches will win a prize. Please send the attachment with your child's name and homeroom teacher.

2. End of the Year Slideshow: Please submit photos of your children from early childhood through Fifth Grade. These can include extracurricular activities, field trips, class parties, Walk-a-thons, etc. We would like all the kids to feel included, so if you have group photos that would be wonderful as well.

We appreciate your help in making these kids feel celebrated during this really exciting time!

Please submit the photos to chapelfield2032@gmail.com

Sincerely,

The Fifth Grade Committee
