Irving Elementary Weekly Update
Week of October 12th
Principal Message
Hello Irving Families!
Thank you to everyone who participated in Walk to School Day last week! We couldn't have asked for better weather. It's always fun to come together as a school community and watch our students play and show off their cool bikes, scooters, and roller skates!
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Next weekend, we have one of our students' favorite events of the year—our annual Trunk or Treat! Join us on Saturday, October 17th, from 2:00–4:00 PM on the Irving blacktop for an afternoon of costumes, treats, and fun!
We are still looking for families to donate candy and/or register their cars to decorate and hand out treats. Please consider helping us make this another great event for our students!
Our PTO will also be selling food and drinks during the event. Please remember that all purchases will be cash only.
We hope to see many of you there!

PBIS
Beginning Monday, October 5 through Thursday, October 29, we’ll kick off our next schoolwide PBIS booster: Bewitchingly Good Listeners! With a little Halloween fun mixed in, we’ll be focusing on good listening and following directions throughout the school.
Each class will have a witch’s hat on our PBIS bulletin board and can earn stars by demonstrating:
- Focused attention
- Listening without interrupting
- Ignoring distractions
- Repeating directions to themselves
Classes that earn 18 or more stars by October 29 will earn a Magical Recess—because nothing is more magical than an extra recess! 🪄
We’re excited to see our Eagles practice being Bewitchingly Good Listeners all month long! 🦅✨

PTO Happenings
It’s been a busy and exciting start to the school year for the Irving PTO! As we wrap up our first full month, we’re excited to share what we’ve been up to.
Our PTO Membership Drive welcomed almost 80 members and raised $800 through one of the easiest ways to support Irving. We brought families together for a fun Lotería Night while raising money for 4th Grade activities. We’ve also been busy behind the scenes sourcing new prizes for the PBIS Cart, which will be launching next month, and supporting our teachers with projects and meaningful programs like Start With Hello Week which focuses on kindness, inclusion, and connection.
A huge thank you to our Irving families, volunteers, and staff who help make it all happen. We’re just getting started and there’s so much more ahead!
PTO is for everyone! Join us and stay connected for the inside scoop on everything happening during the 2026–27 school year.
PTO Support Shines for Teachers
"At the first PTO meeting of the school year, the Irving PTO surprised us with a very generous donation to the Irving Sunshine Committee. The Sunshine Committee is a social committee run by teacher volunteers. Teachers donate to join, and throughout the year we celebrate with monthly birthday treats, organize potlucks, celebrate various school personnel days and more. We recently had a paraeducator retire and some of those funds went toward her retirement celebration. The PTO does so much for our students, families and teachers and we are so grateful. Thank you for your generosity. " - Ms. Smetko, Irving PTO Parent/Teacher Liaison
